Chapter 179

Thank you, Ms. Goodwin.”

Naomi and Charles glanced at the time. But they weren’t afraid because they knew they could meet again.

In the future

Naomi believed that Charles was a smart person and would figure things out during his time in prison.

He would be able to leave the past behind and start anew. Although everyone would die eventually,

Naomi believed that anyone should have the chance to experience the beauty of life, not just its

hardships.

Brendan had been waiting outside for Naomi. When she emerged, he lifted his right hand and gently massaged the back of her neck.

As they were leaving. Brendan turned to glance at Charles. The latter had managed to bring out Naomi’s

maternal instinct.

Meanwhile, as Charles watched Naomi depart, he hoped for her a lifetime of happiness, free from any sadness. He wished that everyone she encountered would be kind and would cherish and protect her.

Brendan gripped the steering wheel with both hands and turned to Naomi as they left the prison. “You seem quite concerned about Charles.”

Sensing jealousy in his tone, Naomi turned to Brendan and teased, “If you were in prison, I’d show concern for you too.”

Brendan’s expression darkened as he grasped Naomi’s chin and pulled her toward him. Next, he leaned in

and kissed her on the lips.

Naomi heaved a sigh of relief and said, “Even though the outcome isn’t ideal, it’s not the worst.”

Brendan held onto Naomi’s right hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. He was captivated by Naomi’s

dedication to her work.

Naomi glanced at Brendan, thinking how surprising it was that he had attended the trial today.

Just as she looked away, her phone rang. After a brief conversation with another client, she ended the

call.

“Let’s have lunch together,” Brendan suggested.

Naomi looked at her watch and replied, “Maybe next time. I’ve got something else scheduled.”

Now that the case was settled, she had to divert her attention to the next one.

Brendan looked at Naomi and silently conveyed his agreement.

It dawned on him that Naomi was no longer the girl who used to skip classes and avold homework. She was now an independent woman, deeply passionate about her work.

In fact, Naomi was not the woman he thought she would be. Her life no longer revolved around Brendan and the desire to start a family with him. Her commitment to her career surpassed any thoughts of motherhood

At that moment, Brendan felt like he had missed a crucial part of Naomi’s life journey–the transition from student life to the professional world.

As the car pulled up at the law firm, Naomi opened the door and stepped out. She leaned toward Brendan and said, “I’ll treat you to lunch another time. Thank you for your support and understanding during this busy period at work.”

She knocked on the car door and added, “I’ll head up now. You should get back to work.”

“Okay,” Brendan replied. But he didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he watched as she walked away and

only drove off after she disappeared from sight.

“Congratulations, Ms. Goodwin!”

“You pulled off a miracle today, Ms. Goodwin!”
