And that night, Brendan talked in his sleep. 

Even though Naomi couldn’t quite make out what he was saying, she knew it was about Sophia. 

But that incident didn’t involve her, and Sophia’s death had nothing to do with her. Brendan didn’t have. the right to pin the blame on her. 

But she and Brendan couldn’t go back to how things were before either. Neither of them could let go of the past. 

All her indifference was just an act. She was just better at playing the game than he was. 

At the same time, Brendan returned to Yellowind Bay with a dark expression. He didn’t respond even when Jennifer called him for dinner and went straight upstairs.

He didn’t know when Naomi stopped needing him so much. She could take care of herself and even her 

parents. 

He took a puff before stubbing out the cigarette in the ashtray. All of a sudden, his phone rang. It was a call from Jason. 

Brendan answered the call, and Jason reported, “Mr. Ludwig, Ms, Goodwin went to the town Charles was from this afternoon. She’ll be back by Friday.” 

Brendan grunted in response, and Jason hesitantly continued, “Mr. Ludwig, there’s one other thing. But I’m 

not sure how…” 

Jason hesitated, but Brendan interrupted impatiently, “Spit it out.” 

“Maximus also went to the same town an hour after Ms. Goodwin did.‘ Jason swallowed hard. He could 

guess how angry Brendan was even through the phone. 

Brendan knew something was off. It seemed that a man’s instinct was sometimes as sharp as a woman’s. Maximus was indeed making a move. 

As expected, Maximus’s return this time wasn’t just for work. 

Brendan abruptly hung up the phone, and the air around him tensed. Even if he didn’t want Naomi, he 

wouldn’t let Maximus have her either.

“Who is it?” Naomi asked, turning toward the door.
