~Alexander’s POV~

My head was killing me. What the Hell happened?

One minute I was choking the life out of the bastard that took my mate from me and the next I was seeing my mother standing in front of me. A groan escaped my lips as I tried to move my head. This was so not a normal hangover. I should know. After my mate left, I tried to drown my sorrows at the bottom of a bottle. Well, several bottles. It took a Hell of a lot to get drunk being a were.

“Ugh, what happened,” I finally managed to ground out.

“You were stupid enough to attack someone in front of my mate, and then threaten her, so you were shot with a tranq.” I rolled my head towards the sound of the unfamiliar voice, hoping it didn’t fall off my shoulders. “Don’t worry, you’ve only been out for thirty minutes. You’ll be good as new in no time.” A tall, dark haired man, with authority rolling off of him, continued.

I wasn’t encouraged by those words as I rolled my head back and gripped the sides of my face. It was then I noticed the duplicate of my mother standing next to him. Slowly, I sat up, with, what had to be, an awed and bewildered expression on my face.

“Mom...” I whispered.

Seriously, what was going on? Was I dead? Did I hit my head, and now I’m in a coma?

“She’s not your mother,” the dark haired man growled out. “She’s my mate, so please refrain from referring to her as your mother again.”

Okaaayyy, tall, dark and broody was a little touchy. Got it. No more talking to his mate.

The pain in my head increased, a presence trying to get through my mental blocks. Was this person an idiot? Didn’t they know I was a White Wolf? It is impossible to get through my blocks unless they themselves were my Alpha.

That wasn’t going to happen as my Alpha was supposed to be my sister, who is somewhere in the world, or possibly dead. This person was just wasting their time, making my headache worse.

If this kept up, I was going to lash out and hurt someone.

‘No you are not,’ an unfamiliar voice slipped through my walls.

I sat up with a start. What the fuck was that?!

Grabbing my head to make the room stop spinning, I realized I had finally gone crazy. Yep, flipped off the deep end and cracked my head on the board. It’s official, sign me up for the loony bin and throw away the key.

‘What is a loony bin?’ the voice asked.

Oh man, now it was questioning my rambling thoughts. What was going to happen next? See dancing fairies on the windowsill?

‘You are confusing me. What is a fairy?’

Oh God make it stop!

“Oh God...” I whispered. I took a chance to look up at where I was at. Maybe they finally put me in an institution and the voice in my head was the reason why.

Nope, not an insane asylum. I was in an office--in fact the same office I tried to strangle the bane of my existence--surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Well, one face was familiar, that of my Beta.

Looking at the man and my mom look-a-like before me, I noticed a smirk on the man’s face, like he knew something I didn’t. What is this dude’s problem? Yeah, I may have threatened his mate, but it wasn’t intentional. It’s not like I went after her on purpose. He needs to get over himself.

Man, why won’t my head stop hurting?

‘They shot you with something to knock you out,’ the voice stated.

“Please stop talking,” I stated aloud. “My head is killing me.”

A moment of silence passed before someone across the room said, “No one’s talking.”

Groaning, I moaned, “Someone is talking in my head. Since I have a headache, I want them to stop.” Ugh, I sounded like a whiny three year old.

Silence reigned again soon followed by chuckles echoing around the room. “What’s so funny?” I asked looking around at the people in the room with me.

The man in front of me answered, “That is my mate, Leah, talking to you.” His smirk getting wider, “Unfortunately for you, that is the only way she is able to communicate, so you might as well suck it up.”

I wanted to growl at him for talking to me that way. Instead, when I tried to stand to confront him, a whimper slipped past my lips.

Whatever the Hell they shot me with was some strong shit. I sat back down with a thump.

“Good boy,” the ass before me said, sarcasm dripping from his voice.

‘Now that you know who I am,’ came the voice again. ‘Now, who are you?’

Clearing my throat, and licking my lips to try to get rid of the cotton feeling in my mouth, I stated, “I am Alexander Whitesmith, Alpha of the White Wolves.” Oh man, I need something for this excruciating headache.

Just then, some white pills were placed in my field of vision, along with a glass of water. Without a word, I took them and swallowed them down. The water worked at removing the dried cotton feeling from my mouth, and hopefully the pills will work on my pounding head.

Finishing the water, I chanced a look around the room again. Everyone was still standing where they were when I first woke. And again, the room was completely silent.

“Anyone going to explain to me what the fuck is going on?”

~Emily’s POV~

I was afraid to move.

The creepy old man, who greeted me upon my arrival to this horrid place, finally allowed me to be unstrapped from the gurney and placed in this room.

Upon being released from the firm grip of the guard who dragged me here, I had followed along the wall until I reached a corner. Sliding down, I sat on the cold floor, trying to shield my belly with my arms and legs.

I wanted to call out for Jack, but since he never marked me, it is a pointless endeavor. Now all I could do was sit here and think, and hope, and wait.

Without permission, my mind kept flashing back to the events of the last few hours. At least I hope it was only a few hours.

They kept me strapped to the table as they poked and prodded at my stomach. I tried to thrash around and keep them from touching me, but the bindings were too tight, and allowed for very little movement.

There were several people talking, asking questions, and answering themselves. At one point they lifted my shirt over my stomach and I went crazy. I didn’t want them touching me or harming my unborn child. Apparently, I was moving too much and they had to sedate me. Whatever they gave me, I was aware the whole time they stuck a huge needle in my belly to extract amniotic fluid. I was aware when they pulled my pants down and examined me to make sure I didn’t have any type of sexually transmitted disease. I was aware when they poked and prodded, took samples, and readings.

I was aware, but I couldn’t do a damn thing about it.

Now I’m stuck in a room. I have so idea if there is a bed, a toilet, a window, anything. I haven’t left this corner since they put me in here. I was too afraid that if I moved, they would come back and do more horrible tests, or something worse to me.

The sound of a lock opening reached me. I stopped breathing. Were they coming in my room? Or were they going to torture some other poor soul locked up here?

“Emily?”

The sound of my name being called answered my question. I held my breath, not wanting to let on that I was here. I wanted to become invisible. Just fade into the wall, and never be seen again.

“Oh, there you are dear. What on earth are you doing sitting on the floor?” This wasn’t the creepy old man from the other room. This was the sound of a very friendly woman. But if she works here then how friendly is she really?

I didn’t answer and just curled into myself further.

A hand landed on my shoulder and I flinched away from it.

Please leave me alone, please leave me alone, please, please, please, leave me alone, chanted through my head.

Apparently, no one is answering my prayers today.

“Don’t worry, I’m not here for anymore tests. I’m just here to make sure you take your vitamins and eat your meals.” She said in what is supposed to be a soothing tone. I was too scared to care. I didn’t want to consume anything they gave me. I just want to go home to Jack and have him hold me and make me feel safe. I want to feel his lips on mine again. I want us to be true mates.

I want to go home.

“Come dear, you must be freezing sitting on the floor. There is a comfy bed set up for you along the back wall. Take my hand and I will lead you to it.” I still ignored her and continued to hold my legs to my stomach.

The woman’s sigh echoed around the room. “All right then. I’ll leave you alone. Just remember, I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to help take care of you.”

A loud clang signaled the closing and locking of my cell door.

I didn’t believe the woman’s words for a second. Jack and my family were the only ones who wanted to take care of me. Everyone here was an unknown, and so far I have only been hurt in their presence.

I may find the bed later on, but for now...

I’ll keep trying to call out to my family and Jack.

Hopefully, someone will hear my calls.
