Blind date turned proposal (Josie and Dexter)
Chapter 1287 Attempting To Believe

Dexter's handwriting was excellent.

Josie still remembered Dexter's childhood days when his grandfather had arranged for the best calligraphy master in Wavery to teach him. The master didn't agree to teach him for money but for personal relationships.

She had once snuck in secretly. Dexter, more often than not, seemed to be daydreaming, as if everything else was more intriguing than the ink and quill pen in front of him.

Seeing that he had no interest in studying, Josie secretly took him out to play.

The teacher was often so frustrated that he was practically fuming.

There was no helping it. Dexter was a prodigy, so even when he was only half as good, he still outshone those who had dedicated over a decade to professional study. And this didn't change even after all these years.

The strokes were as precise as iron etchings and as delicate as silver hooks, displaying a harmony that was as seamless as clouds floating across the sky and water flowing down a stream.

Josie found herself enveloped in an embrace from behind, her right hand held firmly in his. As the pen fell onto the paper, the essence of calligraphy emerged immediately.

"The art of writing requires a calm mind. When the mind isn't at peace, whatever you try to write won't turn out well," said Dexter.

The two were standing so close that they could feel each other's warmth. Josie felt a bit uncomfortable and asked, "Can I interpret everything that happened today as a veiled threat?"

Dexter led her to re-dip the ink. "I told you last time Josephine's father was released. Don't forget the prerequisite is Summer's pillow talk. She was still in Rivodia, staying by that person's side. If they were to plot something with Mr. Dalton, who do you think would be the first to take action?"

Josie fell silent for a moment.

Staying with the Olsen family was evidently her best option. Dexter was powerful enough that they wouldn't dare to act recklessly. Therefore, their only choice was to target those who were most important to each other.

Paul would undoubtedly be the first one, and Josie knew that, which was why she became even more silent.

Dexter knew she had already figured it out, so he didn't press further. Suddenly, he said, "Grape took a tumble this morning."

A jolt of alarm shot through Josie's heart. She immediately turned around and pushed him away. "Is she okay? Is it serious?"

Dexter retreated a few steps. He glanced at the ink that had spilled onto the paper, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"Early in the morning, she followed the servant to feed the little wolf she was raising. As she was descending the stairs, she stumbled and scraped her knee. It wasn't serious though, after bandaging it up, she continued to play wildly in the courtyard." Dexter found himself almost amused and exasperated as he recalled that scene.

Josie was quite serious. "Did you sanitize it? Did you put on a band-aid? Did she cry?"

Such anxiety and worry were the heartaches of being a mother. The mere thought of it was unbearable for her.

"Don't worry, everything's fine," he assured her.

"Find a chance to bring her to me tomorrow," requested Josie.

"Leanne," Dexter suddenly spoke. "Look at yourself now."

Josie was taken aback, her brows furrowing tightly, and she was unable to relax for a long time.

"We are all parents. Naturally, we would have an additional layer of concern and worry for our children. I believe Mark and Claudia feel the same worry for you." His voice was warm and gentle as he spoke. Josie turned around, remaining silent.

"Back then, when Mark's business venture failed, he only kept you out of his three children by his side, you..."

"That's because Summer and Zach are not their children," she interrupted immediately.

"So, now that your memory has returned, you should recall their tolerance and affection for you from those years. Otherwise, you wouldn't have become the lively and innocent person that you were." That was something Josie had to admit.

"After you disappeared, they never gave up looking for you, isn't that right?"

Josie was well aware that her parents had been deceived by Rachel in the past couple of years. The anguish they had experienced over the many years of searching for their daughter was undoubtedly real. Yet, she found it hard to forgive her parents and would subconsciously harbor negative assumptions.
