Blaise

History of Magic is my next class and I hop into the elevator to take it to the third floor. 303 is just a few doors down on the left from the elevator and I’m proud of myself for making it to class a few minutes early. As I stroll in, I see Nox sitting at one of the desks. His eyes connect with mine at the same time and we both give each other the stupid grin. Walking over to the empty desk next to his I take a seat. “Hey,” we both say at once and then share the same dumb grin again.

“Hello all,” a guy says as he strolls in. We watch him walk over to the Professor’s desk before he looks at all of us. “My name is Professor Carmichael,” he smiles warmly. “And this in case you were not here on Tuesday this is the History of Magic class.” His gaze roams around the room as though he’s looking for new faces. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t in attendance on Tuesday and his dark brown eyes settled on mine. “Ah, Miss Salvino, isn’t it?”

My cheeks warm at being called out but I nod my head. “I had looked forward to seeing you this past Tuesday. I apologize you had become so ill. I do hope you’re feeling better though?’’

Again, I nod, and he proceeds to say, “good. Good. I was wondering since your family is a part of our curriculum if you wouldn’t mind sharing with the class a bit of your history?”

Saying I don’t mind I add, “I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed in what knowledge I have of my own family.” Professor Carmichael arches an eyebrow in question. “Well, my grandparents raised me because as apparently most of you know my parents passed away when I was three or four. My grandparents never did magic around me and until a month and a half ago, I didn’t even know this place, this world existed. What little I’ve been told about my parents has been endearing and I’m proud to know that Alina and Dominic did such wonderful things for this community.”

As I say my parents’ names, I hear Nox take in a sharp breath and I glance over at him curiously. He is now sitting rim-rod straight and not looking at me at all. I scrunch my eyebrows together in confusion but am not able to ponder his sudden change in body language. Professor Carmichael speaks up, “well then, let me enlighten you and give you a more in-depth understanding as to who your parents were and why we all admire their work so much.”

Nox

My body is frozen in shock at finding out who Blaise is. I knew I had recognized her last name when she introduced herself, but my thoughts were drowned by the magnetic pull I have towards her, and I didn’t give the last name a second thought. How can the person I know is my soul mate be my enemy? Fuck! My brain screams. How could Fate be so cruel? I can’t even look at her now because of the anger that has consumed me.

Knowing if I don’t do something quick, I will do something I regret; I shoulder my bag and exit the classroom. I can’t be around her at the moment because I don’t know what I would do to her. My chest aches as I feel her hurt look follow me out the door. I practically ran across the campus to get back to my dorm room. I need solitude to think before my head explodes!

I roar as the door closes behind me and grip my hair at the sides of my head. “FUUUUCK!” Pacing the length of my small room I clench my fists as I try to tamp down my anger. Once I can think and have rational thoughts flow through my mind, I realize that Fate did this to me to help me. I can use Blaise to get into the S.C.D. and get my hands on the files about my parents and why they were targets.

Sitting on my bed I open my laptop to begin strategizing my next move.

Blaise

Watching Nox rush out of the room I can’t help but wonder if it was related to something I had said about my parents. Not that I uttered much more than their names. Confused, I turn my attention back to the Professor and listen as he talks more about my parents. “Did you know Blaise that they with their friends formed the Supernatural Council Department?” I shake my head no because like I said, I barely know anything about them.

“They formed the S.C.D. to protect all supernaturals’ and humans alike. Just as there are bad humans there are bad supernatural beings. Their deaths were because of bad supernaturals’, they were on a mission to bring in a rogue group of vampires but the information they had acquired was false. The vampires had set a trap and then killed them.” I gasped in disbelief and my thoughts drifted towards Nox. As the only vampire I know I decided I’d ask him what he knew about rogue vampires.

Anxious, that’s all I could feel by the time the class ended. I desperately wanted to find Nox and chat with him. As I made my way to the cafeteria, I kept my eyes open glancing about me in hopes of seeing him headed this way. I didn’t see him and walked into the cafeteria hopping in line because I was starving.

Heaving a sigh, I resigned myself to not running into him and walked outside. Taking a seat under the red maple I unwrapped the chicken sandwich I had grabbed and took a bite. “Good afternoon, Miss Salvino,” Gavin’s husky voice rang out as he walked up behind me. Just the sound of his voice gets me hot and bothered and I glanced up to look at him as he rounded the picnic table.

“Hello Professor Dearil,” my voice doesn’t sound normal to my own ears. It feels like I haven’t seen him in days instead of less than twenty-four hours ago. As I gaze at him, I try to reign in my emotions because there’s nothing more, I’d rather do than jump him right now and let him have his way with me! “What brings you over this way?” Stars! What is wrong with my voice? I sound so breathless and dare I say sultry?

Gavin’s eyes flash bright green in his desire for me and I find myself pressing my thighs together in a desperate attempt to relieve the ache that has become a pulsating need for the man standing in front of me.

“I-um, I just wanted to make sure you’re, okay?” I stare at him for a second and watch as he rakes a hand through his already slightly disheveled blond hair. “I also wanted to let you know I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since last night,” His voice is but a whisper. “I feel like you’ve put a spell on me,” he adds with a quiet chuckle.

I give him a small smile and whisper, “I’m okay and I haven’t been able to get you out of my thoughts either.” Gazing into his eyes I know he can see the longing in my eyes but before either of us can say anything further a shadow falls across the table. “Braeden!” I squeaked out in surprise.

“Afternoon Professor,” Braeden says barely giving Gavin a glance. Gavin nods but Braeden’s focus is already on me. “Hey Blaise, I just wanted to let you know that Professor Seedling said we can have use of the room from one o’clock until whatever time your class is tomorrow.” He smiles and I can hear the happiness in his voice which causes me to smile widely in return.

“We will talk more later Miss Salvino,” Gavin says drawing my attention to him for a moment.

“Oh, um- okay,” because what does he want me to say to that? The Professor abruptly turns on his heel and walks away from us causing Braeden to look at me questioningly.

Shrugging my shoulders, I try to think of a lie he would believe. “He just wanted to check on me, see how I was doing and then told me that he made sure I will not be grouped with Morgan for any projects.” Braeden nods acceptance just as a chime can be heard coming from my phone. “I’ve got to go to the combat room, but I’ll see you later, okay?’’ Braeden takes hold of my hand as we both stand up from the table and tugs me to him before placing a kiss on my cheek.

“Okay, see you later.”
