Chapter 4 Madness

Wesley stood there, silent and distant.

Encouraged by her colleagues, Layla looked up and gave a faint. smile. “Okay.”

Since some had evening shifts, they decided to go to a nearby restaurant. It wasn’t too far from the hospital.

With a group of eight, the private room was filled, and everyone was showering the couple with congratulations. The room was filled with joy and excitement.

But none of this meant anything to Layla.

The person they were celebrating was the one she had been intimately involved with for six years. Each laugh felt like a knife stabbing her heart

Layla apologized and stood up. “Sorry, I need to use the restroom.”

After she left, the atmosphere in the room turned snide.

She always has that cold expression. It’s like she has a grudge against someone.”

You don’t get it. She’s just distant. Back in school, so many people pursued her, but she never gave them the time of day.”

“I heard she’s taken. She’s not interested in guys from our

Before that person could finish, Wesley abruptly stood up, emitting an icy aura that silenced everyone

He scared them into silence

Amy’s expression soured too. The ones speaking were recent graduates, speaking without much thought. They said these things right in front of Wesley

She grabbed Wesley’s hand, trying to defuse the situation. “They’re just joking.”

I need to use the restroom. You guys enjoy the meal.”

Without giving Amy a chance to speak, Wesley left the private room straight away.

Layla stared at herself in the mirror, eyes filled with disgust. She wasn’t sure if she was disgusted with herself or if the reflection was disgusted with her.

In the next moment, she flicked water from her fingers onto the mirror. The droplets slid down slowly, blurring her reflection

Turning away, she bumped into someone as she exited the restroom, stumbling back a few steps

That person held onto her wrist and pulled her into a stall before she could react

Layla looked up and met his icy gaze. Her heart raced. This was the women’s restroom

He held her waist and leaned in, but Layla turned her head, avoiding his kiss.

Don’t want me to touch you?his low, husky voice echoed in her ear

Layla remained silent, pushing him away instead.

Instead of letting go, Wesley held her even tighter. He started undoing her buttons.

Layla pressed his hand, fear in her eyes.

He was engaged, yet he was still entangled with her, even more passionately than before.

At least before, he never pulled this in such a public place…

His eyes turned dark, and he leaned in, his face dangerously close to her cheek. Then he bit her earlobe, his voice a low, seductive whisper, “You can scream for help if you want.”

Layla’s fingers clenched, panic flooding her. There were still people outside. How could she call for help without making

scene

Realizing she wouldn’t make a sound, Wesley grew bolder. Layla bit her lip, her nails digging into her flesh

It’s weird. Where did he go?Amy and her coworkers entered the restroom. Amy washed her hands, tilting her head as she chatted with Wesley on her phone.

The call connected, but there was no answer.
