Chapter 90

**Margot POV

Kelly had insisted that I accompany her back to the packhouse after the pups had been picked up by their parents. Her complaining had persisted, even after I reminded her that she only had to help with the pups until she arranged a childcare center or chose someone else to take on the job.

She had groaned at the idea of doing the work to organize the new community chi ldcare system.

It was her job as the Luna to arrange care for the pack’s pups, so her whining about it really upset me. It was becoming clear that she really didn’t care about the pack at all. I could understand why she would be distracted by the weird situation with the Lycan King, but it seemed like Kelly’s bitterness was blinding her to everything else.

I had no doubt that it was hard for

her to see the people that had once been her family and friends, but there was a limit to how far my sympathy could go. Kelly was reaching that limit. I was relieved as we approached the door of the packhouse. I wanted to go home.

“Come inside,”Kelly ordered.

I frowned, but I was able to suppress the groan of frustration that wanted to come out of me. “That’s okay,”I said.“I’m sure youhave a lot to do. I don’t want to be in the way.”

She sighed.“Just come in, I want you to help me pick out my after party outfit for Graham’s coronation. I have three options and I can’t decide between them.”

I bit the inside of my cheek and nodded.“Sure, I can help with that.”

I was honestly tired of talking about the ceremony with Kelly. It’s all she cared about. It was a big deal, of course. It would change the course of our pack for years to come.

Graham had promised to take the path in a different direction than his father had, and we all hoped that he was serious about that. We had been through a lot, and peace and prosperity were all that the pack had dreamed of for years.

When he finally became the true Alpha, all of his plans and promises would finally become a reality. We just had to wait a little longer. And all I had to do was humor Kelly.

But I knew she didn’t care about the legalities of it—all she cared was that once it was over, she’d be Luna.

Kelly led me down the hallway to her bedroom. I had been to her room a few times, but it still surprised me to see just how huge it was. Her bed alone was as big as my entire bedroom. Everything was delicately painted in shades of gold and pink that complimented her skin tone and hair.

Graham had wasted no time in hiring members of the pack to

customize the room for her when she had first arrived. There were rumors in the town, because they didn’t share a bedroom, but I didn’t give them much credence. They were probably just waiting until they were officially married to move into the same room.

Kelly hurried to the wardrobe at the far end of the room and dramatically flung open the doors.

“I want something stunning,”shesaid excitedly.“My gown for the ceremony is ornate and graceful. My dress for the formal dinner afterward is simple, but elegant. I want to be S*xy at the after party. I want all eyes to be on me! The rest of the day I’ll just be arm candy for Graham, so this will be my time to shine.”

I nodded, but didn’t say anything. Kelly wasn’t listening anyway, she just wanted to show off her new dresses.

She pulled a short, black one from

……the wardrobe and held it out to me. “This one is classic, but I’m worriedit’s too much of a party dress. It’s still a somewhat formal event, you know?”

“That makes sense,”I replied.“Thatwould be perfect for a night out.”

“Exactly! But just any night out. Ineed something that will stand out more. I want people to remember how amazing I look.”She turned back to the wardrobe and retrieved another dress. This one was cherry red with a long slit up each leg. The fabric had a gleam to it and appeared to be silk.“This one is probably my favorite, but I’m not sure if it’s glamorous enough.”

“It’s stunning,”I answeredsomewhat in awe.

I could see from the cut of the dress that it would flatter Kelly’s curves perfectly. The color might be too bright, though. It would wash out her complexion and make her look pale.

“It really is,”she said happily.“Butthere is one more option.”

She reached into the wardrobe and retrieved a pale purple gown with lace embellishments around the bodice. It was beautiful, but it didn’t look like the kind of thing Kelly would pick out. It just wasn’t her style.

“The red one,”I stated confidently.“That’s cute, but it’s not stunning.”

She looked at it thoughtfully then nodded slowly.“You’re right. This is a tea party dress, not fit for an event like this.”She put the dress back and turned to me.“Thank you for your input,” she beamed.“I’ve been asking Graham to come look and help me pick, but he’s been too busy.”A bitter, dark look crossed her face, but she shook it off quickly.“That’ll change soon.”

I wasn’t sure exactly what she meant by that, but I wasn’t going to ask and drag this out any further.

“I’m glad I could help.”

Kelly looked at me for a long moment, then sighed.“Okay, you can go home. You look tired after dealing with those brats all day.”

“I am pretty worn out,”I agreedwith a light laugh.“Have a good night, Kelly.”

“Yeah,”she said dismissively with awave of her hand.“Be back for tea in the morning.”

I nodded, then turned and hurried out of the room before she could change her mind.

When I first started spending time with Kelly, I thought that I was helping a frightened and mistreated woman to get comfortable in a new home. Now, I felt like I was being held captive by her. I was at her be ck and call and there was nothing I could do about it.

I turned down the hallway that would lead me to the front door and heard raised voices coming from somewhere nearby. I

hesitated, but there was no other way to get to the door. I didn’t want to risk getting lost in this oddly confusing house.

I tried not to listen to the voices, but it was impossible to ignore them. I could hear Graham and his Beta talking. His Beta, who was also his uncle, made me incredibly uncomfortable. There was something sinister about that man that he just couldn’t hide, no matter how friendly he tried to appear.

“Your extended stay at the castleput us behind schedule,” his stern voice said.

“It did,” Graham responded. I couldhear the glee in his voice.

I paused and listened to their words. Why would Graham be happy when his uncle sounded so annoyed with him?

“It’s a good thing that you were ableto ease Blake’s distrust,” his uncle continued.“But the time lost preparing the men here could be

our undoing.”

“You’re being dramatic,”Grahamlaughed.“What I learned in that extended stay will guarantee our success. Blake is weak for Nora. He’s blind when he’s worrying about her, and she’s too afraid of messing things up to defend herself right now. She might have been bold when she first arrived at the castle, but she’s not the same woman Kelly described anymore.”

“How can you be sure?”hedemanded.

“I tested it,”Graham said with alaugh.“I was practically on top of her and all she did was tremble in fear. She didn’t dare risk stirring up issues between the packs, not even to defend her own honor.”

There was amusement clear in his tone and it made my stomach twist in disgust.

But his uncle still wasn’t pleased.

“That doesn’t solve our problem

with Blake,” he pointed out.

“Leave that to me,”Graham saidconfidently. “I know exactly how to handle him, now. It’s just a matter of time before we overthrow that pompous prick and I become the rightfully crowned Lycan King.”
