I woke to the sound of my alarm clock, the noise muffled as my phone vibrated and buzzed somewhere in my room.

Crap! Where’s my phone? I grunted as I struggled in my blankets. My mind feeling fuzzy as I tried to remember the events of last night. Dammit where did my phone fall? I asked myself as I stumbled out of bed and searched around the floor, the buzzing getting louder as I got closer.

“Oh no, please don’t tell me…” I squeezed my head through the small the bed, down below in the gaps I could see the shine of my phone. “Great did it have to fall there? How the heck am I going to get it out?” I asked myself as I fell back on the floor fronting as I smacked myself in the face.

I grunted as I bent up, my next-door from shoving my head in the corner. My phone continued to vibrate the buzzing humming through the wood.

I struggled to lift my mattress off the bed, the pillows falling over the sides as the mattress started to lift off the box spring.

What the heck did I dream about? Why do I feel so… Funny? I don’t think I did anything stupid.

A small piercing headache penetrated the side of my head as I leaned my mattress against the wall, memories of the dream of Evelyn and Raylan fall Leanne like a slideshow in my mind.

“That’s right, I had the same dream of that place, that strange medieval world the one of the singing women.” I told myself as a lifted the box spring my phone coming into view as I pressed the box spring against the mattress.

I grabbed my phone checking for notifications and calls, my alarm clock sitting on vibrate as it waited for the two minutes to go by before going off again.

I turned around and glanced at the box spring and mattress that blocked my closet the annoyance that I’d have to put my bed back together.

“Okay, note to self do not let my phone fall in between the bed again because I do not want to have to take my mattress off every time it falls.” I said to myself as my phone vibrated again.

“Hey, you up?” Blane texted

“Yes, I’m up.” I replied as I tuned to leave my room glancing back at the bed frame as I thought of Evelynn.

“Oh, crap I was in the middle of talking to her shoot what she must be really confused now…. What am I gonna tell her if I dream of the place again?”

I got to the top of the stairs and looked at the bottom when Blane entered the house, his keys rattling as he closed the door.

“Good morning, Blane.” I said as he took a few steps.

“Good morning, Zaphira,” Blane said as he stared at me then smiled. “Your up early… did you even go to sleep?”

I made my way down the stairs and moved to the kitchen Blane following me and sitting down on chair.

“I slept I—”

“Did you do research on the symbols and the jewelry? Blane asked as he glanced at my ring.

“No, not really and you?” I asked.

Blane said nothing for a moment before moving out of the kitchen his footsteps tapping as he vanished.

“He could have just said he didn’t” I said to myself as I searched around for the cereal.

I opened the bottom cupboard, coming across the three boxes of cereals are moved the other day. My mind deciding which cereal to have for breakfast. I could hear Blaine’s footsteps coming back as I close the cupboard door after choosing his shadow rounding the corner as I moved towards the sink.

“You should start wearing this,” Blane said putting the necklace down on the table and then moving towards the cupboard pulling out another bowl. “I know that you’re not exactly a necklace person but… I just feel like it suits you.” Blane said as he grabbed the box off the counter pouring the cereal in his bowl.

“It looks like a giant medallion, something you would wear if you won something.” I said putting my bowl down on the table, my eyes veering to the giant necklace on the table.

“It might be just enormous but… There are two benefits to wearing it one is its one-of-a-kind and has strange symbols on it which would make it look like it’s pricey, Raven would have a heart attack if she saw you in it, and second your mom left behind.” Blane said sliding it towards me.

Damn! He knows how much I love to spite Raven whenever I get the chance. But I just can’t be caught dead wearing something so massive plus who knows what the symbols mean.

Why can’t my mom be here to explain any of this to me? Why did the universe feel like it was a good idea to take her away?

“Fine, I’ll wear the necklace but only because I can spite Raven with that, God knows what she would think it could be some weird fancy new brand that she’s never heard of yet.” I said grabbing the necklace and putting it on the cold metal freezing my neck as it fell into place.

“Yeah, if old ancient relics are new fashion trend, she would definitely be late to the party, her and the rest of the Barbie club.” Blane said laughing.

“Ha-Ha, yeah that would be the day.” I said laughing as I thought of that happening.

Blane and I were finishing up with breakfast when Blaine’s phone began to ring the sound surprising me as the familiar ring tone two 2300 played. I watched as Blane put a finger up and answered the phone his tone sounding surprised.

“2300 really! Actually, I’m more surprised that your phone actually rang, you usually leave it on vibrate.” I said before turning away to do dishes.

“Yeah, I know but mom insisted I put the phone on sound when I’m out that way there is more likely of a chance of me answering the phone when she calls.” Blane said sounding annoyed as he listened to whoever was on the other end.

I watched as Blane left the kitchen his phone pressed to his ear as he continued to listen to whoever was talking.

“I wonder who could be calling, it can’t be Teresa if it was, he would’ve sounded more enthusiastic on the phone.” I said to myself as I tried to think of who would call him.

“I should probably get going now, I’ve got practice I gotta go to I’ll try to swing by and later on tonight.” Blane finally said pumping his head back into the kitchen.

“Who called?” I asked the anticipation picking at me.

“It was Elizia she was asking if I could help her pick out something that she could wear to try to get this guy’s attention, she thinks if she changes her wardrobe a little bit it would to get the guy’s attention.” Blane said sounding uninterested.

That’s weird, you’d think she’d call me. Why would she call Blane especially since Blaine’s the one she’s trying to impress? I thought as I looked at him confused.

“To be honest this stuff is not exactly up my alley, if she wants to figure out what to wear to impress a guy, she probably would have better luck asking another girl not me I personally don’t care what a girl wears as long as she’s dressed.” Blane said.

Ha-ha, at least he’s honest I guess Elizia is out of luck, though I am kind of wondering why she didn’t ask another girl or me for that matter.

I know that I talked to Blane a lot and I may know a lot about him but… I did not know his ideal girl dress code…?

Maybe that’s why she didn’t ask me because it sounds strange.

“So, what did you tell her?” I finally asked as I walked Blane to the front door.

“Nothing really, asked her if I really had to go and why she couldn’t ask you or anyone else and now I have to go meet her to help her figure out what she should wear… I guess.”

“Well, good luck I’m going to try to do some research on the symbols on the necklace hopefully I come across something.” I said as I looked at his annoyance.

“Good luck and good idea I’ll call you later and tell you about my grind fest with Elizia.” Blane said as he opened the front door.

“Thanks, I hope to find something or at least….” I began as I drifted to my thoughts of my dreams and the strange mysteries of the symbols.

“I’m sure you will I believe in you.” Blane said before leaving.

I closed the door sighing before heading towards my bedroom.

I wonder where I should begin, maybe I should start with the symbols they seem like it would be the easiest thing to research other than the so-called family curse which seems to be nonexistent.

I booted up the computer the fan buzzing as the monitor screen started to load, my lock screen image plastering all over the computer.

I didn’t wait for anything to load I clicked on the Internet browser waiting the few seconds for it to load with everything else.

“Blane said that the symbols looked similar to ancient Greek or Nordic runes maybe that’s where I should start.” I said to myself as I typed in the Greek alphabet.

“Yeah, I could see the similarity but something about it looks off, it looks like ancient Greek alphabet looks more straighter that the symbols on the necklace or is that just the way they were carved?” I said to myself as I looked for more images of the alphabet hoping to find something that matched the carvings on the necklace.

I can’t find anything, none of the symbols match each other either the Greeks are to straight nothing seems to add up. I could check the runes but I’m afraid of what I’ll come across what if they’re not accurate either?

I sighed as I searched the Internet browser typing in Nordic runes.

I scanned heavily through every image and what each rune symbolized before plopping my head down on the desk and defeat.

“Ugh! What language is this? They look like they could match both languages yet none of them seem to fit.” I screamed as I rolled back from the desk in frustration.

If none of the languages match then what the heck is written on here? And in what language? It’s starting to feel like maybe it’s not something written maybe it’s just the design of the pendant.

“Wait! Maybe I can bring this pendant into a museum maybe they would note the language, a lot of historians study old languages and old symbols maybe they might know something.” I said to myself getting another burst of energy as I bolted up from my chair.

“I’m heading to the museum; I’m going to see if I can talk to one of those historians who studies old languages.” I texted Blane.

I didn’t wait for his response as I grabbed my bag and stuck the necklace around my neck for safekeeping before leaving the house.
