Chapter 6 ~ I can explain

Kendrick’s POV ~

I open my eyes to an empty room…and it can’t be half seven. All of a sudden, I am incredibly nervous. Not because I was meeting the King and Queen, today. I am meeting her grandparents..and that scares the fuck outta me!

Brutus is urging me to get up and find our mate. You try telling a nearly seven foot puppy she can’t have gone far..and calm down! He doesn’t listen..at all! So, I hurriedly took a shower and dressed.. running downstairs. I pulled up short when I saw her!

She was making breakfast..dancing around the kitchen. I mean, literally, dancing…she had earbuds in.. moving to the music she was listening to. I growled low…why is she wearing that!? Spandex shorts and a sports bra… but..Fuckkk! That ass!

I step behind her.. wrapping my arms around her waist. She leaned back against me, and wrapped her arm around my neck..pulling my face to her for a quick kiss. She smiled..pulling an earbud out..asking “Are you hungry? I was in the mood for pancakes! The boys should all be in the dining hall..if you’d like to join them” I smiled “I’d rather stay here..watching you dance! Why are you damned near naked, by the way?”

She laughed. “This is Not near naked! This is my going to kick some ass in training this morning clothes!” I hum “MmHmm.. Near naked.. How many men will I have to kill this morning?” She grinned “None! I only train with Baron and Alex..because of Angel! No one sees me shift.. It’s still dangerous for white wolves”

I pulled up short.. I hadn’t realized she was a white wolf. The legends only have one born in any generation. I guess it didn’t occur to me, since her mom is still living. No wonder her brother said she would be queen! And, now, I can’t help but wonder, had Troy found out somehow?

I help carry the food to the dining hall..and I notice she had made sure there was enough to feed the entire pack. An omega sitting at the end of table, smiled at her.. “Thank you, Miss Bella, I always feel so guilty leaving you in the kitchen alone when you do this!” Bella grinned and told her “Betty, it’s now fair the three of you can’t sit and enjoy meals with us, hardly at all! This is just my way of thanking all of you, for your hard work! Now… let’s eat!!”

And I realize she gave the kitchen staff the morning off…just so they could enjoy a meal with the pack! What an incredible Luna she will be! Such a heartwarming gesture! As we sit, I ask her “Do you cook often?” She shook her head “Not as often as I’d like. Today, because you’re here.. sure.. but I try and take breakfast, at least once a week.. and dinner…randomly…but once a week. I just never know what day! Our cooks work very hard! They seldom get to actually enjoy a hot meal with the pack. This is my way of letting them know, I appreciate everything they do for us!” I nod at her, smiling!

Jax mumbles around a mouthful “These are the best pancakes on the planet!” Alexander laughs “Bella has been making pancakes since she was like six! Uncle Max taught her..because she was always after him to make them…every meal! He got tired of it!” That brought a chuckle from around the table!

A golden shimmer appeared in a corner, and the King and Queen stepped into the room.. Bella squealed “Granddaddy!” And ran to him throwing herself into his arms. He swung her around.. laughing and kissing her. “Princess! Did you make pancakes?” She grinned at him.. nodding. Then she flung herself into the Queen’s arms “Grandmom, I have missed you so much!”

Bella introduced me to the king and queen. I bowed low and Loren grinned “My boy! None of that! You are family! We don’t bow! One day, you will be King!” Bella groaned “Granddaddy! Stop! You’re as bad as Alexander!” He slapped Alex on the back “That’s my boy! Put the fear of the Goddess in them! That’s our family motto!” I laughed “ There is nothing that would run me off! I have no problem burning the world down, to keep her!” Olivia kissed my cheek.. turning to her mate “You will not intimidate him.. he’s one of ours now! We’re going to keep him!”

We finished breakfast and all of us went to the training center. I was surprised to see a huge gymnasium like structure and couldn’t help asking about it. Baron says “Alpha Blake had it built shortly before the three of us shifted. He wasn’t sure if Bella would be a white wolf. He didn’t want anyone to know, if she was. In actuality, she’s never shifted into Angelica..in front of anyone, but her family.

I’m happy to hear that. The longer that knowledge is hidden, the easier it will be to get something like this set up at Harvest Moon.. I asked “Who is Bella sparring?” And he grinned evilly… “Wanna give her a go? Or..have your Beta spar with her, if you want to laugh. She’s a tiny little dynamo and takes fighting seriously! She may even opt to spar with Loren!”

I ask Bella “Would you like to spar with Jax? He needs the exercise after all those pancakes he stuffed down his gullet!” Her tinkering little giggle filled the air “Is he a whiner?” I shrugged…thinking uh oh..and said “Sometimes.” She spun around to wrap her knuckles..then said “Oh! Goody!!!” He’s going to kill me.

She walks to the center of the ring and calls “Oh Jaxson.. come dance!” He snaps his head to me.. linking he doesn’t want to hurt his Luna.. I linked back to take it easy, then. He shrugged…stepping into the ring he whispered “I don’t want to hurt you, Luna” She nodded sagely, “I understand, Beta.. and that’s understandable. But, I’m not made of glass.. and please know.. I won’t hold back.” And dropped into a defensive stance.

After thirty minutes, and the sixth time she had pinned him, he groaned “Is it terribly unmanly to cry Uncle?” I had been laughing so hard my sides ached and I said “Of course not.. I even got it on video!” He muttered “You knew, you fuck!” I just shrugged, as she sat indian style, in front of him, and asked him to lay his palms on hers. Her hands glowed a beautiful lavender…and I watched, as miraculously, all his scrapes and bruises healed.

Alexander whispered “That’s a gift we both share. She’s a much more powerful witch than I am, though she seldom relies on magic. She thinks it gives her an unfair advantage.” The more I learn…the deeper I fall. I’m a goner.. and I happily admit it. Another two hours..the last one spent watching Angelica spar with Loren’s wolf, Aramis.. was eye opening! She is incredible!

I shifted into Brutus.. just so he had a few moments with his mate, and she wasn’t shy, at all. She is much smaller than he is..after all, he really is a brute! She bounded around him.. nipping at his ears..and heels..the tip of his tail.. And he would just put his huge paw out and pull her down.. laying on her. She’d wiggle out of his grip..and start bouncing again. Just a big white puppy!

We all cleaned up and reconnected in the conference room..and, again, I am impressed. Linking Jaxson we are setting up a room like this back at home! He nods.. overjoyed at the prospect of having something new to plan!

Loren is the first to speak “ Troy Calhoun is obviously, as much a lowlife as his father was. Never regretted snapping that man’s neck! But, now.. I can’t decide if coming after one of my granddaughters is a form of revenge for that.. or if it’s just an obsession. Either way…I will order a cease and desist.. Barring that, I will have to strip his title. I would like to avoid that.. because, we can’t be certain how unstable he is. Losing his pack, might push him over the edge.”

I ask “How certain are we about the attempts to abduct Bella are, at least, partially his doing?” And Loren growled “What? What attempts? Alexander? Care to tell me what the fuck that’s about?”

Alexander shoots me a dirty look and says “Hold on, Granddad… I know I should have notified you.. but.. I can explain…”
