Chapter 10 ~ I have no idea

Kendrick’s POV ~

I didn’t want to leave her. Even though, I will return in a few hours. She looked so lost. Sad..forlorn. My sweet Bella is processing heartbreak..and betrayal.. from the people who should always be open and honest with her. I can understand keeping it from their children..when they were young. But, to never tell them, at all, left them vulnerable and susceptible to danger. That is unacceptable!

Striding into my office, with Jaxson on my heels.. I slam into my chair “ Jake!… I want any and all rogue groups investigated.. especially ones reportedly showing up around the university in the past several months! I want to know if they are being hired…if they can identify who may be taking charge. Scratch that! I want to know everything! Right down to when they take a shit!”

Jaxson asks “Do you think the man that hides in the treeline could be Bella’s first abductor? Possibly related to him?” I snap “That’s just it, Jax! I don’t know what to think! What I know is.. I don’t believe in coincidences. Troy thinks he can force mate her.. then there are two separate attempts on taking her.. then Troy just backs off.. telling the King he has seen the errors of his ways? Too fucking convenient! And it raises my suspicions!”

Jake tell us “I will get on this right away! I have gotten all the extra surveillance and security equipment up and working! Every tower has its own monitoring system.. connected directly to a Security Command Center… right here.” And he stands.. pushing a plate on the office wall.. beside my bookcase. It opened to show four people.. and sixteen monitors.

I smile at him “Impressive , Jake! I can’t thank you enough for getting this done, so quickly. I plan on asking Bella tonight when she’d like to move here, with us. Our ceremony is a little over five weeks away.. but I am hoping she will come home before then.”

I take care of all the paperwork that needed my immediate attention..and pack a few extra changes of clothes. I want to be with Bella when they call her parents. Not because she necessarily needs me there.. I just want to offer my support..to make sure she understands, I am going to always be where and what she needs me to be!!

Jaxson and I head back to Sterling Moon.. Brutus is getting anxious..and if I am honest with myself, I’m just as bad! She has become such a huge part of my life..being away from her is nearly painful. I already love her..and no matter what it takes, I will keep her safe!

We arrive, and Baron lets me know Bella and Alexander are meditating in the clearing. Apparently, they do this often… it’s their twin bond. They can use it to soothe each other.. to find clarity.. Right now, Baron tells me, they are searching memories… they want to know if what happened when they were babies was hidden or taken away. Our wolves, once awakened, can see our memories..all of them..from birth. If her family decided to take the memories of her kidnapping away from her.. they also will have erased her ability to recognize the faces of her kidnappers. Which.. in my opinion…could put her in even greater danger.. He could be in contact with her, in some capacity, and she wouldn’t be aware of it.

I helped Baron set up drink carts and ordered snacks.. I was told there would be a conference call with their parents and grandparents, after dinner. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long night. Not to mention, I am mentally exhausted from wrestling with Brutus’s anger over the pain of our mate. He just wants to simply rip apart..anyone and anything that he perceives causes her any hurt. Yeah.. I’m thinking that would go over as well as a pay toilet in a diarrhea ward… but not judging, here!

Sitting on the lanai now.. sipping whiskey and doing breathing exercises, to stay calm. Max walks over.. with his son, Aaron.. whom I believe is the new head warrior.. not sure, though. I am still learning the dynamics here. He slides a glass over, and I fill it with whiskey from the decanter. I tilt it at Aaron, but he shakes his head.

Max tells me “You’re doing really well. I know it has to be difficult not to run out there and find Belle.. but they need their twin time. It recenters them.. and together, they find ways to cope with situations that can seem insurmountable. When Bella was missing, Alexander cried incessantly.. nothing could console him. They ended up actually forcing into sleep.. I never understood twins, until then!”

I nod and smile “I’m not going to pretend I understand it.. but I don’t mind it. Idris is crazy powerful.. and if Angel can keep him from losing it.. then I am all for that! Their bond isn’t one that invokes jealousy.. Brutus isn’t bothered. I just miss her.. so I’m self-medicating to remain in my seat!” Even Aaron chuckled at that.. but I’m dead serious!

When Alexander and Bella come back from the meadow clearing… all of us were sitting enjoying the sunset from the lanai. Bella came to me and sat down in my lap. I could get used to this..with very little provocation! She feels so good in my arms! I ask how she’s doing and she smiles “I am okay.. I feel hurt…a little betrayed.. I can understand keeping something like that away from us, as children. I can only imagine the fear they experienced..as parents. But I don’t agree with not explaining everything to us.. once we were older. I can’t recall the man’s face..at all.. or even if I had met him..seen him. I don’t know.. I keep thinking I remember a scent.. something distinguishable… but it eludes me. I sometimes feel a sense of Deja vu.. then it’s gone.”

I hug her tightly.. “It may actually be Deja Vu… and you will figure it out. Don’t push it.. Let Angelica help you, love. She will recognize the memory before you.” She hugs me back.. snuggling into my neck and breathing deeply.

I lift her.. standing to my feet. She slides her feet to the floor, and I kiss her forehead. We walk into the dining hall…following Baron yells “It’s gnocchi night!!” And I have no idea what the hell he just said!
