Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 115

Brett has always been full of himself, thinking he's the best.

With great ability comes a big ego, and everyone always revolves around him. A strong background, good looks, prominent status, and talent, he never lacked admirers.

But he has always been cold and indifferent, never really desiring anyone. That was, until he met Izabella, the one woman he thought he would despise for life. Unexpectedly, she shattered every mold he had in his heart.

He thought that this woman loved him to death, considering how she worked tirelessly and put up with his bullying for four years after their marriage.

But now, someone told him that all the goodness she showed him before was because she had mistaken him for someone else.

He had been enjoying unconditional love that didn't belong to him, Izabella wasn't meant for him.

Thinking about these things made his heart ache so badly. Brett held his temple and leaned against the wall, taking deep breaths.

"Don't blabber in front of her. Don't say what you shouldn't," Brett warned, staring at the psychologist. It was more like a threat than a warning.

The psychologist nervously nodded and promised, "I won't hypnotize her again, and I'll forget about what happened today."

Brett was satisfied and didn't want to give him a hard time anymore, so he changed the subject, "When will she get better?"

"It's hard to say. I'll try my best to counsel her."

"Is it that difficult?"

The psychologist shook his head, "Physical injuries can heal with some ointment, but mental trauma like Ms. Salotti's is quite serious. Psychological therapy needs to be taken step by step, and she'll need to be closely monitored afterward. Also, I suggest moving Ms. Salotti to the neighboring building."

The neighboring building was the psychiatric department. The psychologist knew Brett might not agree, so he could only advise, "Treatment and observation will be more convenient there. You can go and take a look at the environment first. All the rooms have soundproofing walls, so you won't be disturbed."

Brett didn't show his attitude, and the matter of transferring her slipped away.

After the psychologist left, Brett returned to the ward and, as usual, sat by Izabella's bedside. Thinking about what had just been said, his usually calm and indifferent heart began to stir. Izabella, who did you really think I was?

He wanted to confront her, but he was afraid. He feared that Izabella might learn that the person she had wholeheartedly loved for 16 years wasn't him.

Brett gently brushed the stray hair from her forehead and stroked her chin tenderly.

"If you made this mistake at the beginning, then let's just carry on with this mistake forever," he didn't think he had done anything wrong.

Whenever Amelia was available at the hospital, she'd come to chat with Izabella, even though most of the time it was just Amelia talking to herself while Izabella listened quietly.

While Brett was absent, Amelia said, "Izabella, Presley has already gone abroad. I wanted to tell you earlier, but you were sick, and I didn't know how to say it to you. I thought I would wait until you were discharged from the hospital before telling you. But last night, Presley called and asked about your condition. How should I tell him about your current situation?"

Upon hearing the name "Presley," Izabella reacted slightly. The stiffness in her smile subsided, and she opened her mouth, hoarsely saying, "I'm fine."

Hearing her speak, Amelia felt a touch of pity. "Izabella, you should talk more."

Izabella fell silent once again.

Amelia sighed and decided to leave after Brett returned.

More and more people became aware that there was a mentally ill person living here. Izabella had gained some notoriety in R City a few months ago when she made it to the trending topics on the internet. The patients on the same floor knew not to provoke Brett, they didn't dare to approach him as before. Instead, they whispered behind his back, saying unpleasant things.

"Did you hear? That Ms. Izabella in R City has a mental illness. She's completely crazy."

This conversation quickly spread online. Brett didn't spend much time online, but Liam sent him the news.

That's when he found out that, due to his momentary negligence, someone had taken a photo of Izabella and posted it online.

Brett only glanced at the headline and didn't read any further. That day, he decided to quietly transfer Izabella to the psychiatric department.

Not for anything else, but because it was quieter there. No one would spy on Izabella, and no one would discuss her being mentally ill.

Izabella resisted Brett's touch. Brett simply wanted to hold her sideways, but Izabella screamed in fright.

After Izabella scratched him on the face the first time, Brett didn't dare to get angry. After all, it was his fault that he had caused her psychological trauma.

Ever since Brett had thrown Izabella down the stairs while holding her, she had become especially afraid of being held sideways.

After being scratched a few more times, Brett gradually found a pattern. As long as he didn't hold her, everything was negotiable. For example, if he held her hand and supported her, she would resist at first, but after struggling for a while, she would eventually give up.
