Chapter 399

As Nathan emerged from the shower, his short hair was partially damp, framing his clean and attractive face.

With his muscular chest and the alluring V-shaped line tracing down his slim waist, Nathan exuded a captivating allure.

Standing just a few feet apart, Mila caught a subtle whiff of his shower gel, the scent lingering

in the air.

Despite her countless encounters with him, Mila still felt bashful at the sight of his body every time. Her cheeks flushed, and her heart raced with excitement.

Summoning her courage, Mila casually asked, “Nate, why did you decide to shower so early in the morning?”

Nathan cleared his throat with a faint cough, easing the hoarseness within. “I worked up quite a sweat during my morning run.”

With that, he strode past Mila and disappeared into the walk-in closet, leaving the towel he'd used to dry his hair draped over a nearby chair. Mila followed behind him, leaning against the mirror, her gaze filled with mischief as she eyed his figure.

Nathan swiftly adjusted the towel around himself and, with a quick movement, took hold of her wrist. Gently, he guided her hand away, pressing it against the mirror behind her.

Nathan's response to her kiss lacked any lingering affection. Instead, he promptly and urgently withdrew from her embrace.

His chest heaved with intensity, his breath warm and slightly labored, while his piercing gaze remained fixed on her rosy lips.

Caught in a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, Nathan struggled between restraint and desire, his Adam's apple moving up and down as his mind raced.

Mila seemed unaware of the power of her allure, which was slowly draining away half of his

soul.

“Mila, please, stop,” Nathan gently cautioned, feeling his rationality weakening in the grasp.

So why was he pulling away when she was making advances? Hadn't he professed his love for her?

Why was he so determined to push her away when she made the first move?

Mila couldn't understand it, her self-esteem taking a blow. Was it because her figure wasn't attractive enough, or was she lacking in appeal?

Nathan had just started going on morning runs, participating in intense physical activities, and even practicing boxing since yesterday. Hence, it wasn't due to his physical state. Rather, he just didn't desire physical intimacy with her.

Mila’s spirits sank further. Feeling uneasy and embarrassed, she averted her gaze and whispered an apology, “I'm sorry, I... I won't intrude anymore.”

Despite catching a glimpse of disappointment in Mila's gaze, Nathan dismissed it as his imagination.

Releasing her hand, he gently lifted her chin and softly asked, “What's the matter?”
