Chapter 32: The last of us

“Jesus” Sanchez said looking through her binoculars

“What is it sarge” a man standing next to her asked

“Get your weapons ready and get into formation men, this is our last stand!!” she ordered the men

The men ran up and down preparing for what was to come. Finished with all their preparations a crippling silence befell the place. Each man to his thoughts, some whispering prayers of protection from their respective gods.

An explosion occurred in the forest followed but sound of gunfire then silence. As they watched something flew out of the forest towards them and rolled stopping right in front of them.

Sanchez gasped in disbelief, she could fee her blood begin to boil. Raising her finger with bloodshot eyes she roared

“Tear him apart, fight like animals”

Just as she finished giving the instruction Ceaser appeared from the woods sprinting towards them. Without hesitation the men charged at him firing at will. Tearing one by one from limb to limb Ceaser ran through the men like they were not even there. His target was Sanchez because if you took out the commander you win the war.

Blood splashed in the air raining down like water from a shower. It was literally a blood bath. The resistance’s numbers were dropping quickly but Sanchez seemed unfazed. Each time Cesar killed men he would glance at her to see her reaction but sue was emotionless. This made him a bit weary.

In under five minutes Ceaser had leveled the plain field. Every man who had charged for him was dead. Either torn to pieces or disfigured beyond recognition. The scene was so grim to the civilian eye they would describe it as hell. The was so much blood and flesh you could barely see the grass.

There was no strangler still trying to hold on to life, Ceaser had made sure of that. Even though he had killed them all they had not gone down without a fight. He too was heavily wounded but paid no attention to them. So much blood was oozing out of his flesh to cause him to pass out but it was like he did not feel it.

Sighing he looked straight at Sanchez who still stared straight at him.

“You know for a woman you sure are fearless” commented Ceaser

She walked up to a machine gun that was stationed in front of her.

“You have earned my respect so I will let you live” said Ceaser “walk away”

She ignored and held the handles

“Well you leave me no choice”

She clicked the trigger and Ceaser charged at her.

Jolting up and feeling a sharp pain on his chest Tom groaned in pain. He reached for his side to where his bat usually is but couldn’t find it. As panic was about to strike a familiar voice calmed him down.

“The war is over young master you did it”

He looked up and saw Xin standing at the door with a radiant smile on his face.

“Is Tom awake!?” Theresa’s voice came from outside the room he was in

She rushed in with teary eyes and gently hugged him. Behind her was a face Tom was not familiar with.

“Oh Tom i was so worried” she said staying glued to him

“I missed you too Theresa” he said

“This is Takashi, he was in the group i ended up with after i got separated from Tanya” Theresa said as she finally let go of him

“Nice to meet you” Takashi waved and Tom nodded in response

“Speaking of Tanya where is she?” he asked with enthusiasm on his face

Theresa’s expression dropped as she stood up and pointed at the other end of the room. Tanya lay there with oxygen tanks next to her helping her breathe. It was not until now that Tom realized everyone in the room was bandaged and had a lot of bruises. He slid from his bed slowly getting ip, Takashi went and helped him up. He walked to where his friend lay. Most of her skin was purple from Ceaser’s blows and she was scared all over. She had so many wounds there weren’t enough bandages to cover them all up.

Tom felt his heart fall apart as he watched the state she was in. The thoughts and guilt began to rush back when Xin immedietly pulled him out of it.

“She chose to fight out of her own accord, we all did” Xin said and Tom turned to him

“We aren’t kids you know. If we wanted to leave we would have left a long time ago. We follow you because we choose to” said Theresa

Tom paused taking it all in and then smiled and looked at Theresa.

“But you are a child though”

There was chuckling from behind him. He turned to see Tanya’s eyes slowly opening. Everyone rushed to the bed.

“Tanya hey” Tom said in a soft low voice

“Tom” she slowly turned her head “you you are alivee” she broke a smile

“Im immortal after all” he smiled

“Did we did we”

“Yes we won” replied Theresa

“Thank God” she smiled as tears escaped her eyes

She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
