Chapter 640

Avery nodded, signaling the director to go ahead and shoot the supporting cast's scenes first. With a purposeful stride, he headed towards Leah.

Hyvin spotted him and quickly offered a greeting. Avery returned a polite smile.

The place was swarming with paparazzi and fan girls. If he ignored Hyvin, the gossip would spin it. "You shooting around here too?" he asked.

Hyvin nodded, "I'm in the next theater group, so I came over to see and say hi."

"Break a leg.” Avery clapped him on the shoulder, then turned to Leah, “Let's head to the dressing room. Need to adjust my getup.”

“Sure thing.” Leah rose from her seat.

Hyvin stood up as well, "Guess I'll head back then. We should hang out sometime when you're free.” “Sounds good.” Leah offered a warm smile.

After he left, Avery ushered Leah into his dressing room and shut the door behind them to ward off any paparazzi.

"You and Hyvin go way back?" he asked.

“He was the second billing in the last production. We kinda hit it off’ Leah replied nonchalantly, oblivious to the shadow creeping into Avery's eyes.

Avery lifted his hand, gently stroking her hair, “Showbiz is tricky. Best not get too chummy with folks."

Her eyes, wide and puzzled, met his, "Worried I'll blab? Relax, Avery. Mum's the word with me. I won't spill a thing"

He realized she'd gotten the wrong end of the stick, but he wasn't sure how to explain that his unease simply came from not liking her too close to any other guy.

Impatiently, he tugged at his clothes

Leah quickly checked them, "Your outfit's on point, hair's well-styled. You're looking sharp."

Avery shrugged, “If you get bored watching me shoot, you can go and find Aurelia.”

Leah beamed, her eyes crescent moons, “Watching you work is not boring”

Avery pinched her rosy cheek softly, his eyes brimming with fondness.

He had grown accustomed to being with her and wasn't keen on sharing even a sliver of her attention.

“Stay clear of Hyvin in the future.”

"Why's that?" Her eyebrows arched in confusion.

"He is a playboy,” Avery grumbled, irked at the thought of him pestering Leah.

Leah blinked, a sly twinkle in her eye, "I think Hyvin's pretty cool. He is warm and witty, and I enjoy our chats.”

Avery was somewhat annoyed, saying, "Looks can be deceiving, and you're too naive to see through people.

Listen to me, and I won't steer you wrong."

Leah pulled a face and replied, "Come on, Avery. I'm twenty, not a kid anymore. I want to date, fall in love."

Avery's heart clenched, "You're not falling for Hyvin, are you?"

"He's good-looking and kind, a great catch; Leah said, tilting her head earnestly.

Avery felt as if struck by lightning, as though his heart had been plunged into icy depths.

He flicked Leah's forehead, "He is handsome? More like all mouth and no trousers. That type's the worst. Since when did you lose your touch? Should I book an eye exam for you this weekend?" Leah clutched her forehead, feigning hurt, "Avery, I've never been in love. Wanting a boyfriend is normal, right?"

Avery felt a tangled mess inside, utterly agitated.

"Keep your eyes wide open for someone decent and solid. Don't let a jerk ruin you."

Leah stuck out her tongue playfully, "I'm not love-struck. I've got an eye for these things. I can spot a jerk a mile away."
