Chapter 400

Aurelia had no desire for coffee. Her doctor told her that a severe bacterial infection had

resulted in her coma. She had to be careful with what she ate or drank until she fully

recovered

Yet, she found herself in a coffee shop anyway.

Evelyn ordered a latte, stirring it casually as she delivered her barbed words. “I've told your before that Leopold was in love with my sister Megan. The moment she returned, he couldn't wait to divorce you so they could get married. I almost feel sorry for you.”

Aurelia knew Evelyn was there to gloat, to kick her while she was down. But, she was. eager to see Evelyn to have a heart-to-heart chat.

“Leopold loves your sister and wants to marry her. What's that got to do with you?”

Her words hit home, striking Evelyn's sore spot. Evelyn's relationship with her sister, Megan, had been tense. Megan had always overshadowed her, and as long as Megan was around, Evelyn knew she'd never get ahead.

"She's my sister. Of course, I'm happy for her if she’s with Leopold.”

Aurelia shook her head, sighing deeply. “Oh, it's touching to see how much you love. Megan. It's a shame that Megan didn't take you as a dear sister when she stole Leopold away from you.” Evelyn's face twitched. “What do you mean? Don't beat about the bush!”

Aurelia leaned back in her chair, speaking calmly, “Leopold first noticed you, not Megan. He liked your innocence. He prefers simple-minded women. But Megan noticed that and started to badmouth you. She told him that you were faking your innocence and that your were manipulative and even a school bully, which had led Leopold to dislike you and start seeing Megan as the better person.”

Aurelia didn't fabricate everything. Leopold's interest in Evelyn was not true, but Megan's backstabbing was. It was Elowen who had revealed this.

The drama between these sisters could fill an entire novel.

Evelyn's lips tightened, her teeth grinding together. She didn't doubt Aurelia’s words. Megan was indeed that underhanded.

In the silence, Aurelia continued, “After you returned, Leopold went out with you and still held some lingering feelings for you. He still liked you, believing you were not as terrible as Megan made you out to be. He thought you were still innocent and kind and even considered divorcing me to marry you. But you screwed it up and played those little tricks, confirming Megan's words and convincing him of your deviousness. Thus, he kicked you to the curb without hesitation.”

Evelyn flushed. She finally knew what had led to her downfall.

About Elowen... I was just fighting back.”

Aurelia sighed. “It's all gone. Megan's back and you have no chance unless...” She left her sentence hanging, creating an air of suspense.

"Unless what?” Evelyn hurriedly asked.

Aurelia replied, “Unless you can change Leopold's impression of you and show him Megan's true colors.”

Evelyn narrowed her eyes, a sharp glint appearing in them. “And what good will defeating my sister do for me? It'll be like when I fought fiercely with Elowen, only to have your benefit from it. I won't make the same mistake again.”

Aurelia had expected this reaction and smiled lightly. “What did I benefit from it? After signing the divorce papers, I left. It was after Elowen revealed your plot against her that Leopold decided to break up with you. He never loved me. He wanted me back only because he didn’t want to lose to Arnold.”
