Chapter 130

"How is Evelyn?”

“Just some minor bruises. Nothing serious.” He took a seat on the couch, pouring himself a glass of water. Aurelia sat up, draping a jacket over her shoulders. “Why are you here at this hour?”

He didn't feel good to this question, feeling her rejection from a distance.

At the party, she was chummy with Arnold and Fredric, laughing and enjoying herself.

“This is my territory. I can visit whenever I like.”

“I was worried you might be tired,” she murmured.

He frowned, his tone frosty. “You don't need to worry about me.”

Aurelia rolled her eyes, certain he had visited Evelyn first before coming here.

She picked an orange from the bedside table and began to peel. The sight of him carrying Evelyn away had,

left a sour taste in her mouth, and she peeled with more force than necessary.

Leopold grabbed the orange, peeled it cleanly, and broke it in half, handing one half to her.

He had noticed that she loved oranges, consuming several each day.

After eating a slice, he asked in a low voice, “You seem to be getting closer to the Stirling family?” His tone casual, as if it was just a passing question

Aurelia blinked, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “At the party, your aunt approached me. I think she was trying to test me, but I managed to brush her off.”

He believed she was capable of handling that.

"Did you also brush off Fredric?”

She stuck out her tongue. Wasn't he busy tonight? How did he have time to keep an eye on her? “He was discussing some matters related to the Stirling family with Arno. I was just an innocent bystander.”

She changed her tone, “Getting to know the Stirling family could be beneficial, right? The more you know about your enemies, the better you can prepare.”

Leopold stretched out a hand to ruffle her hair. “Don’t trust anyone but me, especially Arnold.” “Understood, Mr. Leopold!” She popped another orange slice into her mouth.

The thought of the unknown assassin sent chills down her spine.

Although Arno was her best friend, and she was certain he couldn't be the culprit, she still kept her guard up. The babies in her womb might be the only children of this powerful man, and she had to protect them at all

costs.

“Don’t you have bodyguards?”

She had never seen him with bodyguards, only Kevin.

Shouldn't someone of his status be surrounded by security?

Even a C-list celebrity had multiple bodyguards.

Leopold gave her a dark look, his gaze sharp. “Why do you ask?”

She pursed her lips, her voice barely above a whisper. “I heard that you were... assassinated?” Leopold stiffened, his brows furrowing. “Who told you that?”

"Ms. Elowen let it slip when she was drunk during dinner.” She replied in a small voice.

A glint of warning flashed in his eyes. “What else did she say?”

“Nothing else. She passed out before she could say more.”

She dismissed it casually, careful not to let him know how much she knew about his secrets. After a pause, she asked innocently, "How were you assassinated?”

Leopold's gaze got serious, his expression grave. “That's not something you need to know.”

"Oh, then I won't ask anymore.” She quickly shut her mouth, looking the picture of innocence Leopold took a sip of his water, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. “Are you worried about me?” She nodded honestly. “You are the father of my children. If something happens to you, what will happen to our children? I'm counting on them to inherit your fortune when they grow up!”

The last sentence nearly choked him!
