If Sasha hadn't gone to pick up the car for her, Clara would have been the one lying injured right now.

lan's eyes darkened with a surge of anger. His hands clenched into tight fists.

Chase laid Sasha on the stretcher, his large hand patting her cheek with force. "Sasha, no sleeping, come on, wake up."

The sting from his pat slowly roused Sasha. Her eyes fluttered open as she weakly cursed, "If the crash didn't kill me, your slapping might just do the job."

Hearing her voice, Chase suddenly felt a burning sensation around his eyes. He immediately asked, "How are you feeling? Is the baby okay?"

Before Sasha could respond, lan rushed to her side. "It's not you who's pregnant. It is Clara. Isn't it?"

Sasha slowly lifted her eyelids to look at the man before her, whose face was etched with tension. She had intended to keep the secret, but the words stuck in her throat.

lan was certain his guess was right. He closed his eyes in agony. So, the person Clara mentioned in her letter, the one she wanted to protect, was their unborn child. She chose to leave silently to shield the baby from harm.

At this realization, he couldn't help but curse himself. "What a damn fool!"

The signs of Clara's pregnancy had been so obvious, yet he'd never suspected.

When she had morning sickness, he thought she had food poisoning.

When she was overly tired, he assumed her period was approaching.

When she avoided spicy seafood, he simply thought she had an upset stomach.

It never crossed his mind that she might be pregnant.

In less than a minute, lan had sorted through his thoughts. He immediately took out his phone and released a statement.

Meanwhile...

Clara had switched cars several times under Brodie's guidance, finally arriving at a private airstrip. Once she boarded the plane, she could vanish from this place, leaving no trace behind.

She turned to gaze at the winding mountain road in the distance and closed her eyes. She knew lan must be frantically searching for her by now, and he must be in so much pain.

But wasn't she the same?

The tears Clara had been holding back finally slid down her cheeks.

Brodie looked at her with downcast eyes, his voice gentle. "If we don't take off soon, lan will track us down, and we might not be able to leave."

Hearing this, Clara wiped away her tears, forcing a smile. "Let's go."

Just as they were about to board the plane, Brodie's phone rang. Whatever was said on the other end, it turned his gentle face into a mask of coldness.

Clara, sensing something was off, immediately asked, "What's wrong? Is there trouble?"

After a moment's hesitation, Brodie said, "Someone tampered with your car."

Clara's eyes widened as she realized the implication. "Did Sasha have an accident?"

"She crashed into a utility pole, still unconscious, and it's touch and go."

Clara staggered backward. The revelation hit her hard. Her car had been at the dealership for maintenance before the new year. She'd intended for Sasha to retrieve it, so she could use it. That very act had now endangered her friend.

Clara's tearful eyes flashed with fierce determination. Her hands balled into fists, her jaw clenched tightly.

Sasha was in this state because of her, and Clara couldn't just selfishly prioritize her own safety and leave. She needed to return, to uncover the truth, to be there when Sasha woke up.

With clear resolve, Clara's shining eyes locked onto Brodie. Her voice was laced with both coldness and determination. "I'm going back."
