Jerica’s POV

I’ve been officially Luna for two weeks now. I love it. Helping with things around the pack, making sure all is well, standing with Reo in his alpha duties. It’s all great. My pack is wonderful too. My magic work is going swimmingly. I go to the diner when I can to spend time with Grandma Peggy. We also got word yesterday from King Alpha Benjamin that Shadow packs new alpha was taking over next week. New Moon’s alpha has two brothers and the second oldest, William, will be taking over Shadow pack. I’m so happy about that. He also said that the other packs that were not treating the humans well have also been taken care of. On the bad end, vampires are still attacking random cities. We’re making sure we’re prepared. Now it’s just a waiting game.

I’m at the diner sitting at the counter talking with Grandma Peggy and one of the pack members. The member is a young girl, Winnie who is 16, and her wolf isn’t appearing. That’s very rare. Wolves always appear on the 16th birthday. She is so upset and I’m looking through my books seeing what I can do.

“About 30 years ago there was a pup whose wolf was having trouble because of a trauma. Once we got down to the root of the problem he was able to find his wolf. Now he is one of our strongest warriors,” Grandma is saying.

“That makes since. Winnie, is there something bothering you?” I ask.

“I do have nightmares a lot of nights.”

“What about?” I ask.

“A vampire capturing me, and because I don’t have my wolf, I can’t fight him. He’s drinking from me. I wake right before I die.”

“Oh,Sweet Girl,” Grandma says.

“Hang on one second,” I tell her, then I link Tabitha if she can bring me an aquamarine and black tourmaline gem. She gets them to me quickly. I set them on the counter and enchant them so that their energies are amplified.

“Winnie, take these gems and place them under your pillow. The aquamarine will cleanse your thoughts of fear and anxiety. It will help you handle uncomfortable emotions and to ultimately release these feelings and trust your own abilities and intuition. The black tourmaline is a protective gem, one of the strongest protectors against dark forces and evil. Once your fear is eliminated, my hope is that your wolf will appear,” I tell her.

She hugs me and thanks me then takes the gems to put under her pillow. Tabitha tells me that that was a great idea and Grandma says she really feels that that will help. I sure hope it does. I sit there talking for a little longer when I get a mind link from Reo that Blair is going into labor. I tell Grandma and Tabitha I have to go and run to the clinic. When I get there Reo is in the waiting room. Him, his father and Kevin’s father are sitting in chairs near the room that Blair is in. Reo stands up and gives me kiss. I say hey to everyone and ask how Blair is doing. She’s good right now but is in some pain. That’s normal so no one is worried. I sit beside Reo and hold his hand. We all talk for a while when we hear Blair screaming. That didn’t sound normal. Reo links his mom who is there with Blair, Kevin and his mother.

“She’s in an unbearable amount of pain. The baby is breech and the epidural didn’t take. They might have to do a c-section. Mom says she’s just in so much pain. The doctor might could deliver the baby naturally but the pain is making her start to panic. They don’t want to take her to surgery in this condition but they also can’t deliver naturally. Nothing they use is helping with the pain,” Reo tells us.

Poor Blair. There has to be something I can do. We have some spells to help pain but we’re limited. There is one that will take all her pain away though. I’ll have to sacrifice for it, but I’m happy to do that for Blair.

“I can help her. I have a spell.”

Reo’s POV

“I can help her. I have a spell.”

Jerica can help her? That’s great. She is the most powerful witch there is. Of course she has a spell.

“Really Darlin? That’s great!”

“Yeah. Y’all just let me do it. No interruptions. This is the biggest spell I’ve done and I need my full concentration.”

We all just sit quietly. I link mom about the spell. She’s so relieved. I’m sitting by Jerica, her eyes are closed, she’s very still, and starts her spell.

“Maji la jadu aa jaye zinthos ce tra cahlem.”

We’re all still. We wait. 30 seconds, one minute. That’s all it took. Mom links all of us that Blair’s pain is completely gone. They can now work on getting the baby in the correct position for delivery. Thank goddess. Jerica did it. I look over to thank her and her eyes are still closed. But they’re tight. Then I sense her in pain. What did she do?

“Darlin, are you ok? What did you do?”

“I’m ok. Don’t worry.”

She sounds breathy. She IS in pain. Damnit, she took Blair’s pain for her. I don’t want my baby sister hurting but I also don’t want my mate in pain.

“You took her pain. That was the spell. Darlin, why? Are you ok?”

“It’s the only spell I had that would work for her in this situation and be able to take all the pain away. I’ll only be in pain the amount of time she would’ve been. Ah, phew. Her pain would ease once she has the baby. That’s when my pain will ease as well.”

She can barely talk. I don’t want Blair knowing this so I link Dad and tell him what Jerica did and tell him I’m taking her to an empty room. I also tell him not to tell anyone. He nods at me and gives a loving look to Jerica. I pick her up and take her to another room. I link the head of the clinic to let them know I’m taking a room. I set her down on a bed and lay beside her. All I can do is hold her tight till the pain goes away.

“I’m not pushing a baby out. Phew. So. Ah. Um, it’s not as bad for me. I’m happy to do it. If she was. Having anxiety. Over the pain. That would. Be bad for. The baby. Phew.”

“You’re an angel, Baby. A true angel. I love you so much.”

I just hold her and rub her. Do what little I can for her pain. We’re there for a little over 30 minutes when finally her muscles untense, and she starts to breathe normally. We get a link the baby has arrived.

“See? The baby probably wouldn’t have been born so quickly if she was still dealing with this pain. Now, the baby is here and I’m done with the pain. Easy peasy lemon squeezy,” she says in a still breathy voice.

“You’re crazy. You’re also the most selfless person I know. Thank you for helping my sister.”

“Anytime.”

We take a few moments for Jerica to to be able to get up. She’ll probably be sore for a while. When we get home, I’m giving her a massage and making her a bubble bath with epsom salts. I’m also getting her favorite food from the diner and her favorite candy. Then we’re gonna sit on the couch and watch her favorite movie before I make love to her for the rest of the night. Taking someone else’s pain so they don’t have to go through hell. How many people would do that? Not many. An angel and a saint. That’s what she is. I’m so proud of her and am the luckiest man on earth to have her be mine.

We walk into Blair’s room and she is glowing. I can tell she’s tired but she is one proud mommy. I step over to her and give her a hug.

“I’m so proud of you, Bug.”

“I couldn’t have done it without Jerica.”

“I didn’t do much. A simple spell and I was glad to do it.”

She’s so humble too. She’ll never tell Blair about her sacrifice for her.

“Well, what do I have? A niece or nephew?” I ask.

“Nephew. Named Joseph Allen, after both our fathers,” Kevin says.

Kevin is holding the baby right now. He is a very happy and proud poppa. I walk over to him and he lets me hold Joseph. He is definitely one cute baby. I mean, he has the Thatcher gene, of course he’s cute. Jerica comes over to me and I pass her Joseph. She’s smiling at him and cooing.

‘This will be us one day,’ I link her.

‘I can’t wait,’ she links back.

We look at each other and smile. I give her a wink and she shyly looks back at Joseph.

“He’s so adorable. I’m gonna steal him away every chance I get I hope you know,” Jerica tells Blair.

“He’s gonna be so spoiled isn’t he?” Blair says.

“Yes,” we all say at the same time.

We stay with them for a bit then leave so Blair can rest. We promise to see her tomorrow. I can tell Jerica is still a little sore. I take her home for the night I already promised myself I’d give her. And I deliver on that promise.
