Chapter 491

The ones chasing him were Interpol, but among them were also snoops and lackeys of those officials.

In the end, they’d still find a way to get rid of him.

If it were just him, Sean had a pretty good chance of handling it.

But now he had a kid with him.

The child had a very special identity, Albert considered him his own son.

Jared didn’t thought he would be leading around by a kid.

All he saw was the little boy’s fluffy little head bobbing along.

But the kid didn’t talk like most kids.

When he took Jared’s hand, it was so hatural, he didn’t even look up.

Out of the corner of his eye, Jared spotted a few people tailing the little guy.

He didn’t know why, but he wanted to help this little guy.

He didn’t think twice, scooped up the boy and left the Imperial Hotel.

Jared came here to gather information.

Turns out, Reggie Albert never showed. Probably smelled the danger from miles away.

Jared was about to leave, so he put the kid into the car, and sped off.

Good thing those guys couldn’t keep up.

After all, their target was a kid. Now, they needed to find Sean.

All the men in black retreated.

The kid stayed silent after getting in the car.

“Why were those guys tailing you?” Jared finally asked.

But the kid stayed silent.

Jared turned to look and found the kid snoozing in the back seat.

He couldn’t help but chuckle.

This kid had nerves of steel.

One minute he’s being tailed by some shady characters, the next he’s napping.

To him, Jared was a stranger too.

This was a first for Jared.

What the heck was going on with this kid? Where’s his family!

Why was he alone at the Imperial Hotel?

Judging by his outfit, he is probably from a wealthy family.

He was in a tailored suit, which Jared noticed right away.

This kind of bespoke clothing costs a pretty penny.

But why was he dressed to the nines today? Was he attending some important event?

Jared tried to wake him up, but the kid was out like a light.

He had no other choice but to take the kid to Wavesong Villa.

He had to wait till the kid woke up to figure out the situation.

If a kid this big goes missing, his parents would be worried sick.

When they reached Wavesong Villa, Jared carried the kid out of the car.

The little guy was sleeping like a log, didn’t wake up when Jared picked him up.

Leo happened to come in to report.

Seeing Jared carrying a kid, he was taken aback.

Leo asked, “Who’s the kid?” 

Jared simply replied, “No clue,” and headed upstairs with the kid.

Leo’s jaw dropped, thinking, “Wasn’t the boss at the Imperial Hotel today? How did he end up bringing a kid home? The kid’s dressed fancy, where did he come from. Does the boss know kidnapping is illegal?”

Though he thought this, Leo followed and offered, “Boss, you must be tired. Let me take the kid up.”

Jared shook his head, “I got it.”

Then he continued upstairs with the kid.

Finally, he laid the kid down on his own bed.

The kid was sleeping soundly, didn’t look like he was gonna wake up anytime sooner.

Jared found it odd, he gave the kid a little shake.

But the kid just kept sleeping.

Chapter 494 

Jared immediately called for Leo, “Get a pediatrician on the line now, and oh, get Steve over here too.”

Steve was Jared’s personal doctor in Manhattan.

He is a versatile medical expert.

As Jared watched the child sleeping like a log, he couldn’t help but suspect that the kid might have been drugged.

Both the doctor and Steve arrived quickly.

After a combined check–up, they came to a conclusion.

The kid hadn’t been drugged, nor was he injured.

He was just sleeping.

Jared breathed a sigh of relief.

As Steve was leaving, he said, “The kid might be sleeping so deeply due to some unknown reason, or it could be a mental disorder. His parents need to take him to a hospital for a thorough check–up.”

Jared nodded, “I’ll let his parents know.”

After two hours of hustle and bustle, Jared finally returned to his bedroom…

The kid was never awake.

Jared stood by the bed and watched for a while.

He thought the kid was unbelievably cute. His features were exquisite and three–dimensional, his skin tender and soft, looking like a little prince straight out of a fairy tale.

Jared couldn’t help but wonder what kind of people the kid’s parents were to have such a good–looking kid.

Leo, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but exclaim, “Boss, this kid is so cute. There’s not a single flaw no matter how you look at him. His parents are so blessed.”

Jared looked at the child, but he felt a pang of inexplicable sadness.

He also had a child, but he had no idea how that child was doing now.

Did Agnes give birth to their child? Was it a boy or a girl? 

What did their child look like, where was he or she now?

These were questions Jared dared not think about on a regular basis.

Every time he thought about it, he felt like he was on the verge of a breakdown.

He couldn’t even find Agnes, let alone their child.

Agnes hated him so much she even lied to him about not being pregnant.

She had no intention of telling him.

Would she have kept the child?

Jared thought of the possible scenarios, felt fear, and his heart went cold.

Jared’s expression gradually darkened.

Leo watched him, feeling surprised.

What on earth had the boss thought of that made him suddenly look like this?

“Boss?” Leo ventured tentatively.

Jared finally snapped back to reality, “What is it?”

Leo said, “What should we do with this kid? Should we call the police?”

Jared paused for a few seconds before saying, “No. We’ll deal with it when he wakes up.” 

But what Jared didn’t expect was that the kid would sleep for a full 18 hours.

By the time the kid woke up again, it was already evening the next day.

That day, Jared was working from home in the villa.

Leo was also there.

They had gone to check on the kid no less than ten times.

But no matter how much they tried to wake him, the kid didn’t stir.

Jared was beginning to believe that the kid might actually have some kind of sleep disorder.

He remembered Ryder once mentioning a rare sleep disorder where some people needed to sleep over twenty hours a day, with only two hours of wakefulness.

Now, it seemed like Ryder was also researching on the topic.

It was such a rare condition, Jared hadn’t expected to encounter it himself.

Especially in a child who was only four or five years old.

Nocturne woke up and rubbed his eyes, misty and watery

But quickly, his gaze started to sharpen.

His eyes were incredibly beautiful, it’s hard to imagine a kid with such clear and bright eyes.

As Jared walked in, he saw the little boy dialing a number on his phone.

As Jared stepped in, the little boy just hung up.

He looked up at Jared, his voice crisp, “Sir, Is there anything to eat? I slept for quite a while, I’m hungry.”

Seems he knew his body well, he just said he’d slept for hours.

Jared thought this kid was anything but ordinary.

The way he talked, totally not like a little kid, more like an adult.

Jared said, “I came to get you for dinner.”

Nocturne was very polite, “Thank you, sir.”

Jared took him to the dining room for a meal.

He ate with good manners, looking pretty refined.

Having slept for 18 hours, he should be starving.

But he didn’t wolf down his food.

Jared started to wonder about this kid’s parents.

Jared asked, “What’s your name?” 

“I’m Summer. Thanks for saving me yesterday, but could you take me home now? My mom’s pretty worried about me.”

Jared nodded, “Rest assured. Once you’re done eating, I’ll take you home.”

“You can just drop me off at Epochal Square, my mom will pick me up there.”

“Sure.”

Jared felt like talking to this kid was like talking to an adult.

Jared asked, “Why did you choose me yesterday? What if I was a bad guy, too?” 

Nocturne calmly said, “Most people in the Imperial Hotel are foreigners, but you look like you’re from my country. So I asked for your help, you’d be more likely to sympathize with me. Also, your watch is a limited edition Henry Graves, it’s quite expensive. Your clothes are all high–end tailor–made, your shoes are custom–made by the famous Italian craftsman, low–key but worth a fortune…”

At that time, Leo was also there.

Hearing a child saying this, Leo was simply stunned.

Jared just ruffled his hair and said, “I’d like to meet your mom too.”

Agnes drove to Epochal Square.

She spotted Nocturne in the middle of the square from a distance.

She was fretting the whole day.

Not just her, everyone was on edge.

That night, Nate discovered that her system was under attack, and after counterattacking, she realized that Interpol had already set up a trap at Imperial Hotel, aiming to nab Sean,

But by then, Sean had already taken Nocturne into the Imperial Hotel.

Nate quickly notified Sean. Albert’s birthday party was canceled.

Agnes‘ heart skipped a beat. She saw Nocturne hand over the watch to Jared. Jared put the watch to his lips. His voice came through clear as day. “Hello, ma’am. Can we meet?” Agnes hadn’t heard Jared’s voice in a long time. It was deep and clear, laced with a faint familiarity and coldness. Her heart started pounding like crazy, and it felt like her body was coming back to life. She couldn’t respond because she knew she’d blow her cover once she opened her mouth.

A puzzled “Hello?‘ came from Jared’s end of the line.

Agnes quickly hung up. She saw Jared’s confused look, but he just shrugged it off and gave the watch back to Nocturne.

He ruffled Nocturne’s hair, said something, then got in the car with Nocturne and drove off.

Agnes‘ current mood was as devastated as a city after a typhoon had passed through.

For the past four years, she thought she had become independent, rational, and strong, and she made sure she appeared that way. But the moment she saw Jared, she felt like she had reverted back to her old self, with her past weaknesses, hesitations, and evasions all surfacing at once.

Agnes didn’t like this version of herself, but Jared was like her personal mirror of truth. She started shaking as she held her phone. After a long while, she started the car and left. Jared took Nocturne back to Wavesong Villa

Leo sighed, “That kid’s parent is really gutsy. What could be more important than their own kid? Just leaving their child with a stranger… aren’t they scared something might happen?”

Jared replied indifferently, “You think something would happen to him with me around?” 

“Boss, I didn’t mean that,” Leo quickly clarified as he glanced at his boss through the rear–view mirror. He had a feeling his boss was actually quite pleased that the Kid hadn’t been taken away.

Nocturne fell asleep again shortly after they got back.

Leo reminded Jared, “Boss, you have a meeting in Manhattan tomorrow. What are we doing with the kid?”

There weren’t any full–time staff at the villa, and they usually hired temporary help for cleaning.

There was an important meeting tomorrow.

Foth he and Jared had to attend, so neither of them could stay behind to take care of the kid.

eo suggested, “Shall I find a temporary nanny?”

No need,” Jared answered casually, “I’ll take him to the office with me tomorrow.”

Leo was totally gobsmacked.

He never figured the big boss would care so much about a kid from God knows where.

The next day, Jared was up at the crack of dawn and headed to Nocturne’s room.

Selina, both disappointed and curious, asked, “Why didn’t he make this public? The boss isn’t engaged yet, is the kid his and his fiancée’s, or is it a love child?”

Selina leaned in and asked, “Come on, spill the beans, is that the boss’s love child? Who’s the mother? Is it that actress Sharon from the rumors?”

The boy woke up at three in the afternoon.
