‘I wouldn’t do that if I were you.’ A male voice with a British accent stopped me in my tracks while reaching for the granola. They added this new dish to the breakfast buffet and I felt adventurous today. I decided it was time for something different. I literally ate eggs and bacon every day and it was starting to show in my belly region. I needed to be healthier… and a little skinnier. It had definitely nothing to do with Dosch Rios and what he had put me through in those last couple of weeks.

‘Excuse me?’ I was offended by this stranger butting into my breakfast choice like this. Who was he to tell me what not to eat?

’I’m sorry but I’ve seen you eat those eggs and bacon every morning and I’m sure you will not like that… that concoction is actually completely uneatable.’ He gave me a goofy smile. He was tall. He towered over me, easily 6 foot 3. Little shaggy, with that longer blonde hair that fell around his face like a curtain. Five o’clock shadow lining his angular jaw. He dressed really casually in dark jeans and a slightly oversized orange shirt that had seen way too many washes. If he had a good make-over, he could be a panty dropper. But right now, I was not interested in anyone new. I had my hands full with the ones already in my life.

‘I’ll take my chances.’ Weirdo. Knowing what I eat every day? I angrily scooped up and entire bowl of granola, poured some milk on it and stomped of. I was also cranky about Dosh and Ash. Really really cranky. So I might have been more rude than I would have been if he had caught me in a better moment. To add to my crankiness, I was up at 6 because I had switched my training from Ash to training from Dean and that guy was a whole other animal. Who exercises so early anyway? And why did Ash let me go so quickly when all the other times we had fought he had refused to let me quit his class?

Therefore I was entirely alone in this cafeteria, besides the handful of early joggers, that British guy, and the cooks. I dropped down near the window and stared at the bowl. I plunked my spoon in, took a bite and nearly had to stop myself from spitting it straight back out. I tried my very best to swallow down all of it but it took a lot. I heard a snort and glanced up. My nose was still scrunched. The stench had gotten into my nose from my near vomit, and I could not believe they would serve this shit here.

The British guy found me very amusing. He did a ‘told you’ shoulder raise and continued on with his eggs and bacon. Which looked so delicious…. nope Lux… it is not for you anymore.

I glanced at the apple. Not really my favorite fruit, but it had the least calories, so I started on that one combined with a strong cup of coffee. Didn’t help my mood, though.

As he was sitting a few tables in front of me, but towards me, I could study him a little. Something about him was familiar. Like that guy you see again ten years later, the one you went to high school with. In my case, this was utterly impossible, unless he was one of the people that had escaped earth. Then it was possible…

He spotted me watching him and waved. Cheeky bastard. ‘Hungry?’ he said. His voice traveled far since we were the only ones talking in there.

I rolled my eyes at him, and he put another big spoonful of eggs in his mouth. He made it seem like it was the best meal he ever had and rolled his eyes back in pleasure.

‘Show off.’ I sighed but couldn’t help but smile.

‘Scoot over here, granola conqueror.’ He added around a mouthful.

Now it was my turn to roll my eyes.

‘Hey, I did warn you love…’ he winked.

I grabbed my stuff and rose, not really in the mood to join the new guy.

I had to walk past him to get rid of my tray.

‘Here.’ He threw something my way, and I caught it mid-air. It was a chocolate bar, and my stomach betrayed me by rumbling loudly. ‘Enjoy.’ He scraped his chair back and dumped his tray on the dumpster, and walked out, hands in his pockets.
