Chapter 45: girls night

I reached for the bag of Cheetos, needing more. Skylark swung it in the air to the other side of the room, knowing I wasn’t going to get up of the couch.

‘First you tell me what is going on!’ She was seated next to me in her pink pj’s, hair in a top bun and both of us had green sheet masks on. We were having a girls night because I wasn’t dealing with anymore boys anytime soon.

I raised my hands in defeat. ‘Fine… what you want to know first? How Kai did a 360 on me and is suddenly very offended by my relationship with your white-haired brother and cheated on me? Or how the biggest gangster of Rivellin and I kissed and then some…and I can no longer deny he turns me on? Or how that same white-haired brother of yours is playing this hot and cold game with me for far too long now?’ I took a deep shuddering breath.

Skylark eyes were wide. It stayed quiet for a second too long. She knew little bits of all of those things but apparently hearing them out loud was a different beast.

‘You kissed Dosch Rios? And then some?’ That was what she was getting from all of this?

‘It happened the night at that nightclub you went home with captain hook.’

‘Oooh that night.’ She sighed sadly and made a cross over her heart. It was the night she’d had a terrible one night stand.

‘Well… we were all making bad decisions that night I guess.’ she had gotten her revenge on Lenn but now they were even and back together. The Rainer way they called it.

‘Yeah well….he’s a good kisser. I bet he’s good in bed too.’ My stomach did a low flip thinking about Dosch.

She threw the pillow at my face and groaned. ‘Please don’t say that. He is a very bad guy Lux. He might be playing of this act right now, but he could actually get you killed. If only for the fact his enemies know he cares about you. If that isn’t an act to get in your pants anyway.’

‘Well thanks for the vote of confidence!’

‘You are human. You know that is a fetish here right?’

I nodded. I was very well aware of the fact that we were a fetish over here. Still I believed Dosch actually liked me in some weird way.

‘What is your take on Ash? If anyone knows him, it’s you.’

She sighed. ‘Well…. He cares about you… a lot. He is just conflicted. As a Rainer of prominence he must find his mate or mates…since you are human you can’t bond in the Rainer way. This all wouldn’t be a big deal for someone like Dosch or even Sebastian’s rebellious ass. But it is for the other Paramore’s.’

I knew it.

‘So he could never really… be with me?’

‘He could have fun and it would last a while I’m sure. But when he needs to seal the bond and marry… it’s going to fail. And with the pressure of the council, my parents and Oak breathing down his back to make it all seem right. If he had the choice I’m sure he would choose you, Lux. I am not blind. I’m seeing how he looks at you. But he is not alone in this thing….baby, I’m sorry. I know you care for him.’

My eyes were watering. ‘It’s ok… I care for him but I can still push all of this back. Do you think that’s why Kai is also acting coldly towards me? Does he realize this now as well?’

‘I guess so…’
