Evil Angels
Chapter 4

Emma’s POV

As I was on my way to work when I saw sheriff cars parked out in the fields. All of them still had their lights on and I could see Deputy Hales putting up caution tape.

That’s weird… not many people come out here, except for cattle.

I pulled over to the side of the road and walked out towards them. Deputy Hales saw me immediately and smiled, “Hey Emma, what brings you all the way out here?”

I forgot he still has a crush on me.

“I was on my way to work and saw all the lights. What’s going on?”

He adjusted his cowboy hat on his head, “I don’t know if I can tell you that. I don’t think the Sheriff would like it very much.”

Ugh fine… I will work my magic then.

I stepped closer to him and stared into his eyes, “Oh, Deputy Hales, please tell me. It can get scary out here all alone. I just want to know if it is safe for me to go home tonight.”

I heard a laugh from behind me, “Emma, don’t you have anything else to do besides sweet-talking my deputies into giving you information about murders.”

A murderer? In this town?

I turned around, “Hey Meagan, no, I don’t have anything else to do. Now, what was that about a murder?”

Meagan sighed, looking down to the ground, “You haven't changed a bit have you? Fine but only because you might be able to help me.”

She waved at me to follow her and lifted the tape for me. After walking for about a hundred feet we came up to a dead body laying on the ground. It was a girl with blonde hair and green eyes staring off into nothing. Claw bite and bite marks littered her skin.

What the hell? I haven’t seen her before.

Meagan knelt down next to me, “We don’t know who she is or where she even came from… maybe since you are so good at finding trouble you can figure some things out… and maybe even ask around to anyone who comes to the general store. You seem to get a lot of travelers going through there.”

I shook my head, “I don’t know. It’s been awhile since the last time I got mixed up into anything… but I will ask around.”

Meagan stood up, “Thank you. Now, isn’t Andy wondering where you are at by now?”

I turned and began the journey back to my truck, “Yup, you have a good day now Sheriff. Bye Hales!”

Deputy Hales looked up from his notepad, “Bye Emma, hope to see you soon.”

I got in my truck and started the rest of the drive to work.

Hopefully, they will find this murderer soon.

I pulled into the back of the general store and hopped out of my truck. Once I got inside, Andy was sitting in the rocking chair reading the newspaper.

I threw on my apron and tied it around my back, “Hey, Andy. Sorry I am late.”

He looked up from his reading, “No problem, my dear. Can I ask why though?”

“There was a murder in the cattle fields outside of town… The Sheriff was wondering if maybe I could ask around for her.”

He shook his head, “That girl thinks you could help just because you got into some trouble as a kid.”

“It was weird though, I haven’t seen her before. No one knows who she is or how she got here. We live in a small town, Andy. Everyone knows when there is a new person here.”

He lifted his paper again, “You can ask around. Just be careful. If that body was found in the fields then it was close to your cabin.”

I nodded and started to walk down the aisles making sure everything was organized, “Oh, I will. My rifle will not leave my side.”
