Chloe

Last night’s shenanigans left me with a massive hammer throbbing in my head, sensitive to light, and a severe case of dry mouth. Peering at my surroundings, I’m home– alone. Good! I felt dancing with Eli got a little... frisky; however, I escaped his grasp before it advanced any further.

Rising from the bed, my head swirls, the room is unstabilized, causing me to fondle my way to the bathroom to obtain migraine medication to assist my fundamental recovery.

Balancing my way to the kitchen, water is gulped at lightning speed in dire need of rehydration. Releasing a gasp of relief, last night’s conversations echo in my mind. Axle and the repeated mentioning of his disastrous state fill me with disgrace. My treatment of him was atrocious even after he did all in his power to attain my location.

He consulted with the mafia to discover my whereabouts, for Christ’s sake. To track me down! Who the hell am I for him to go to such dangerous lengths to acquire me again? And they retrieved me, tossed on the sidewalk like trash to be found by hospital personnel.

My mind reels with the facts laid before me. OMG! They recovered me! THEY FOUND ME! Racing to the bedroom, I grasp my robe, fly through my apartment, making my way to Jade’s door. Banging on her entryway like a mad woman, she finally unbolts the door.

Eyes wide and bewildered. “Chlo, are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“I need you to take me to him.” I spew at the speed of light.

Slicing her eyes, eyebrows furrowed. “What?”

“I need you to take me to him! That guy!” My hands wave frantically in the air.

Shutting her eyes, she shakes her head back and forth, her hands waving before her. “Chloe, you’re talking nonsense.”

“No, I’m not.” I reassure her.

“Chloe, Who?”

“HIM!”

“Him who, Chlo?”

“I need an introduction to that mob guy... what was it... Valentine something?” I questioned, unsure of his name.

“Valentino?”

My eyes spark. “Yes, I need an audience with him.”

“What the hell for?” Her eyes mildly slice, voice an octave higher.

“I have to speak with him to track down the guy who... who did this to me.”

“What do you mean, did this to you?”

“Jade, please, just tell me where to find him.” I plead for her compliance.

“No!” She shakes her head, strolling away from my crazed state.

“Damn it, Jade, PLEASE!” I implore her with

“No, Chloe, your talking madness. I’m calling Axle.” She grasped her phone in a split second.

“NO, DON’T!” Pulling the cell phone from her hand, I lob it onto the sofa, grasping her hands.

“Why Chloe? Do you have any idea how much I envy what you have with Axle? It’s my Envious Desire to have that again! You are acting fucking crazy right now.”

My voice turns down octaves, “Because... he’s the reason why.”

“Who, Dominic?” Her confusion ensues.

“No– the one who did this to me. He’s why,” my voice disappeared.

“Why what?”

“WHY I LOST OUR BABY!” I shouted in ferocity, not geared towards her but at this fucked up situation I call my very existence.

Jade’s eyes widened in horror. “Chloe, I’m– I’m so sorry.” She made her way to me for an embrace. I retreated as I refused to allow my emotions to rule my body.

Holding my hand up. “Just don’t.”

Questions imploded in her brain. “What? How? Who?”

Fuck, I’m going to have to expel the events of that dreadful time. “He...” I can’t believe I’m going to say this out loud. “When I was taken. I was strapped down to a bed. He came in day after day. He ripped my clothes and grabbed me in places while I begged him to stop. I was made aware of the pregnancy the day Axle was shot; however, I would never divulge that information to him.”

I required a moment to swallow what was just spoken before I commenced. “Day after day, he tormented me with unwanted advances, beating me when I refused.”

Jade’s brown hues flooded with tears, overflowing down her cheeks, moistening her shirt.

My eyes veered towards her door, unwilling to allow her emotions to influence mine. “I would overhear voices speaking, I surmised, attempting to curb his demented actions. A blindfold was securely bound to my face, shrouding my ears. It’s undetermined if they were within proximity or further away.”

“Oh, Chloe.”

I require strength at this moment. “Just let me get through this, please.” Taking a deep, lung-filling breath. “On the last day, he tried to– to.” I required a moment to formulate the words. “He attempted to– rape me, Jade.” I spewed it out to skirt past it as soon as possible.

“He beat me, Jade. He was brutal, I pleaded for him to stop. If I made him aware I was with child, I considered, maybe, just maybe, he would relinquish his horrid actions.”

Jade gasped.

“I expelled my truth; I explained I was pregnant. It was inconsequential to him; not a care was considered. He said it didn’t matter to him because he was going to fuck me in the ass. The beating ensued, threw me against a hard surface, tied me down, legs and arms spread apart over what I think was a desk or table.”

Recalling his actions triggered an ice-cold chill to rake its way up my spine. “His calloused hands spread me apart, unable to release myself from his grasp. He began,” I choke on my words, “to rub my backside. He was about to– he started to– I started to feel pain from him forcing himself inside me, but, by some miracle of chance, someone, who I’m still unaware of... stopped him. Glass shattered all around me, and that’s when I felt it, a splash down my legs.” Tears threatened to spill over.

“I knew something was wrong; everything went black. I’m concluding this other person untied me from the desk and tied me to the bed. All I can recall after that was waking up in excruciating pain, the constant moisture between my thighs, then being thrown out of a moving car to find out they had left me at a hospital to lose my baby.”

Anger filled my veins! My voice raised octaves higher. “That baby was supposed to be mine and Axles, and instead, he has a baby with HER!!! So yeah, Jade, I have a fucked up state of mind, and I have every fucking single right to be.”

My anger shifted to anguish. “All I want is to find him. I need to find him. Please, I’m begging you. I need this. This is the only way to help me. Please.”

“Fuck Chloe, I’m so...”

“No! Don’t tell me you’re sorry... tell me you’ll assist me in my recovery from this awful ordeal.”

“Chloe, I don’t think this is the right way.” She clasps the charm on her necklace.

“Jade, don’t tell me you wouldn’t do the same?”

Moments pass as I let the thought settle in. She finally speaks in a whisper, “Okay.”

“Thank you, Jade! This is a necessary part of my healing process. There’s no alternative; this is the only way to get closure. He took everything from me.”

Staring at me she continues. “I just have one question.”

I nod my head for her to inquire.

“Once he finds him, what are you going to do?”

I hadn’t thought that far ahead, I reply with honesty. “I’m not sure, Jade; however, I’ve distinguished a confrontation is necessary. He robbed me of a future I wasn’t even aware I desired– my baby, our baby, a life I no longer have access to.”

After our extensive conversation, my swift exit was inevitable. I required space to review my hasty request. I concluded with Cranberry tea, my sofa, and a blank stare into oblivion, contemplating if this was the right course of action.

I do– I do want to face my captor but why? What are my intentions? I want him to pay for what he did; however, how is the toilsome query? He took our chance at happiness. He ripped our baby from my womb.

Would we have had happiness with Selena lurking in every crevice of our life? Could we have found elation despite the odds stacked against us? Ugh, this train of thought must cease thriving in my mind! Woulda, coulda, shoulda have never cured any irrational thinking. However, I desperately need what will, and that is confronting that bastard!

My eyes seal as I ponder the possibilities of what the outcome of my actions may be. My phone sings in my ear when Jade’s face fills my screen.

Rushing to answer, I swipe left. “Hello?”

“Hey, Chloe. Against my better judgment. I called, and he agreed to meet with you in a week and a half on Wednesday at 11am. I can go with you if you want.”

“No,” I answered with haste. “This is something I need to do on my own, Jade.”

Silence filled our ears. “Chloe?”

I remain silent.

“Just be careful. I’m not sure what he’s capable of, but I do know he has a reach far beyond the average person. I just want you to be safe.”

“Thank you, Jade. I appreciate your concern. I’ll be careful, and if I feel at any moment that it’s unsafe. I promise I will leave.”

“Okay. Just call me at any moment if you need me.”

“I will. Thank you again.”

We end our conversation with my thoughts weighing heavily on me. I sit there contemplating my speech to the mafia boss, Dominic Valentino, whom I will be face to face within a week and a half. Could my pleas sway him to assist me in finding my captor? Would a man such as himself even care?

Money! He’ll want money. I’ll offer an insurmountable amount of money that would pique his interest. Grasping my phone, I check my balance; there’s more than enough to sway him to assist me in my recovery and guarantee meeting my captor face-to-face.
