Dweller
Chapter 18

The wind blows through my hair, blocking my eyes. The birds are now awake and are singing on branches nearby. Some sing on nearby branches preparing to start chanting along when the fight starts.

I’m standing still and just relaxing waiting for the kids to make their moves. My arms are dangling by my side, however they are prepared for me to move them at will. My body is trained to fight, even in the most comfortable looking stance I’m always on guard. They wait for me to drop my guard. Trying to find a good place to start first. It stands still for a little while, as no-one moves.

Until Sam speaks up, interrupting the calming silence. “We don’t have all day, you’re not going to beat Stalker you might as well go for it now.” He shouts as a yawn slowly streams out from his mouth. Being dramatic.

“Let them go at their own time.” I sigh giving him my attention. Turning my head to fully face him.

The kids find this as a great moment to attack. They charge at me face on. As they approach, I kick my left foot out tripping Blar as she charges at me causing her to get a face full of dirt as she falls sliding across the floor. Her face goes dragging through the dirt as her feet come flying out from underneath her. I dodge Maddy as she comes straight towards me, trying to hide Secle who is trolling right behind her. They try to attack me as I dodge Maddy giving Secle the opening. I do the same maneuver as I did to Blar.

Jason trails behind them, giving him the opening as I’m fully distracted by the other two. He moves too slowly as I easily dodge all attacks. I look behind me to find them all either have eaten dirt or are not covered in dirt. I was expecting a better fight but for never having been in a fight that could cost them their lives they were all right. I was still a little disappointed.

“Alright now that that's wrapped up. Let's head out. Sam, are you ready to go?” I question as I turn my back to the kids and walk over to Sam.

“Yup, I’m ready to go.” He says not to commit to my harshness towards the kids.

“Get yourselves ready to go, you all got ten minutes.” I state before turning my back and leaving the hideout and having the slums behind. Giving everyone the cold shoulder. I never look behind as I go back to my territory to collect anything else I might need. Over time I’ve become agitated. Getting closer and closer to the time the mission starts.

I wish it was just a solo mission. I could have already gone and would almost be done and would be coming back. I grab a couple small items and put them in my small porch that I had created.

I headed towards the hideout again, and entered the bosses room. Everyone was already there and was ready to go.

Sam was talking to Smorgins, and the kids were together in a group talking to each other. I walk over to Sam and Smorgins and enter their conversation. We went over the plan to leave the walls and how once we were out we had to figure out our own way back in.

It was finally time to leave. Me and Sam lead them to a far back corner of the slum, a part where even the sickest people don’t enter. This place was free for all. No-one rolled it nor did anyone want to. It was full of people that were sick with all sorts of contagious illnesses. We made it over and there was a girl with red hair leaning up against the wall.

Her eyes opened as she heard us approaching, I took the lead and stepped forward. I tossed her a bag of money. She catches it and looks at the coins. Once they are examined to her expertise she nods her head and points in a direction.

We follow where she points, in the dark gray almost black walls, is a crevice small but big enough to fit us. I hope so.

We head over to the hole in the wall, I go climbing first. I crouch down, and slowly crawl through the space, my arm and knees scratch against the hard materials. It takes my whole body in the whole before I can finally reach the outside of the whole. I pushed through and was immediately faced with a fence. I maneuver my body so that as I slither out of the hole I can also climb up the fence.

As I enter the outside world I look around, taking in the plains. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the wild. I can hear grunting as someone else comes through the hole.

Jason comes out with a painful expression. He struggles climbing over the fence but eventually does so. I’m still frozen to my spot watching and taking in everything in front of me. Jason gives me a confused glance before looking at the scene in front of me.

His body also goes still. We stay as still as a rock as we wait for everyone else to come up. Once everyone is here. We all stare mesmerized at the scene in front of us. I look back at where the whole previous was. Only to see that it is now fully filled in almost as if it was never there. Now we know why we can’t use it the same way.

On the other side of the fence was a large field, the field looked peaceful, butterflies were fluttering in the air, deer were prancing through the thick stubble. The warm sun shining down keeps the warm and welcoming feeling on the cold day. However, through the tall grass and the peaceful exterior lurkers ferocious beasts.
