Day 200:

Just like they had every night during their time at IDRI, Abigail and Riley sat on the sofa in their small flat and flipped on CNN.

Images filled the screen of people receiving vaccines, soldiers being deployed, and of course open ship ports and airports. “Hi, I’m Barbara Jenkins. It looks like the war is finally coming to an end with the Human race being the victors. After almost seven months, the vaccines have been given to the majority of the population that can receive it and people are fighting back against the zombies. With me is Max Brooks, author of the famous novel, World War Z the title given to our own real life zombie war.”

“Thank you Barabara, I wrote World War Z as a social commentary, similar to the traits of many directors and authors today. The most common trait of zombie in the media is that there is no hope. The zombies bring out the fear in people that they cannot escape the terrors that are found in the world, that there will always be something there. Even in my own book, I use zombies as a social commentary to talk about the ethics of war. I make it clear that there may or may not be hope for the human race, despite their perserverence.”

“Do you believe that humans have hope now?” Barbara asked.

Max Brooks remained silent for a moment. “After the scientist of the North American Team created the vaccine, I think that there might just be.”
