Captured By A Ruthless Vampire King
|14|~She-Wolf in the City~

Unedited.

Embry POV.

"Rule Number 5 Do Not and I repeat Do Not utter a single word to anyone who you are to me. No one is to know that you are my beloved,” my mate stated to me through clenched teeth.

The moment the words left his mouth I wanted to drop down to my knees, ball up like a baby and cry. But I didn’t.

I don’t want to cry anymore. I’m not going to cry anymore.

I refuse to shed another tear.

Cyrus’ rejection is taking me down a dark path of self-destruction and my human side is slowly but surely becoming restless.

I don’t have the energy to cry. I’ve shed way too many tears since I’ve met him in this short period. I don’t want to be that pitiful girl. I’m not!

I need to get myself together and push through this.

I don’t have the strength to be battling with myself and battling with my mate for his affection and love. I’ve to get it together. I just have too. With that thought, I make my way into the bathroom.

The first thing my hazel eyes set upon is the white bag full of toiletries sitting on the golden toilet seat.

Yes, a gold toilet! The bathroom looks just as lavish as the bedroom. If not better! There is a gold toilet a gold basin, a gold shower, and a gold bathtub. The decor is also gold and there is a squeaky clean marigold marble floor.

I take a deep breath and look at myself in the mirror. The young lady that’s staring back at me is not the same young lady that I’ve grown used to seeing.

For starters, my hair is tangled. A complete tangled messed. However, a little water and a good brushing will do the trick every time. The real troubling news is actually my eyes.

They are puffy, red, and swollen. Plus, my usual hazel shade appears to be dull and void of light, nowhere near as brilliant as they should be. There are dark little critters forming underneath my eyes and my skin looks paler than usual, almost like chalk.

Oh, but let’s not forget about my dry lips and wild, thick, and full eyebrows that can surely need a good plucking.

Oh, my Goddess, I look like hell. I’ve been through some shit.

Snap! I cursed again and I bought my goddess into this. Oh, Goddess! Please help me. I feel like I’m losing myself. I’m cursing, saying my Goddess name in vain, and I look like a train-wreck.

Feeling like I am completely losing myself. I need to get it together and fast. “I’m Embry Wilde and I can do this,” I give myself a pep talk. “I can show him that we are meant to be one.” I continue to boost my ego.

I smile. Fake smile. The type of smile that Farrah always complained about, you know the one that doesn’t quite reach my ears. I look like a puppet. Fake and fraudulent.

Who am I kidding? I’m not mentally or physically ready to be a part of this world. His world.

Oh, man! Oh, man!

I think to myself while placing both of my hands down on the marble countertop and lowering my head.

“Goddess please give me strength,”

“Yes, Goddess please give her strength,” mocks Cyrus from behind me, making my heart drop, literally.

I turn to face him with my hand placed over the top of my uncontrollable beating heart. “You gave me a fright,” I tell him.

Gosh! I didn’t even hear him come in. He moves so fast and sneaky, like a little church mouse.

“That’s because you weren’t paying attention to your surroundings,” scolds Cyrus.

He’s right I wasn’t but “he doesn’t have to talk to us like we’re a child,” growls my wolf. She’s starting to talk to me more than usual.

“We will be landing fairly soon, I suggest you hurry up and get yourself together,” he advises before turning to walk out of the bathroom door. “Oh, and Embry,” he adds in.

My heartbeat goes from zero to a hundred real quick. His last, “Oh, Embry,” didn’t do me or my wolf any good.

“Yes,” I answer. In my, you ringed type of voice.

He catches on and the faint red glint inside of his eyes tells me that he doesn’t like my voice tone. Voice tone is everything. Remember I just can’t stretch that enough.

Cyrus walks back into the bathroom and stands directly in front of me. With each step he takes I take a step back.

Only coming to a stop because my back hit the wall, meaning I have nowhere else to go. Cyrus tasteful looking lips curve into a wicked triumphant smirk, confirming the very obvious. I’m trapped.

Just that quick, that indescribable energy is back, blowing at full force. He lifts his hand to touch my face. It’s just a phantom of a touch and I almost lean into it.

“Rule Number 6,” he suddenly says, clearing his throat while slightly pulling away.

“You must pay attention to your surroundings at all times,” he tells me. “Do you understand?”

I quickly nod my head in agreement.

“Good,” whispers my mate. He’s still standing directly in front of me and it’s taking all of my self-control not to pull him in closer. “Very Good,” he continues with his husky voice. “Now hurry up. There is a lot to be done, especially if you’re going to show me that we are meant to be one.”

He is gone before I fully catch on to his words. He heard me, I think to myself as my face turns fifty shades of red.

How freaking embarrassing?

Goddess, he’s good! Goddess, Goddess he’s good! He’s good a creeping up on me. Good at breaking my heart. Good at gluing my heart together. Excellent at leaving me speechless, and he’s darn sure good at confusing me to the very end.

After, my mate’s departure I managed to make myself appear to be halfway decent well as decent as one can get with some water, a brush, a toothbrush, and some over-sized clothes.

Not my best appearance, I’m sure but I look better than I did before I entered. Well, actually I look much better. One thing that I know how to do is make myself look presentable. I may not be the best of the best, but I’m good enough to push through. So that’s, that!

The trench coat that Cyrus was referring to was a little too big. Okay, it was a lot bigger than I expected! So I declined the opportunity of wearing it and took it upon myself to place on a leather jacket instead. It’s not really as stylish as my leather jacket that perished in the Northern Border fire however it smelled like my mate so it’s fine by me.

Hopefully, my decision doesn’t upset my mate. That’s the last thing I want to do, trust me.

I guess I’m about to find out because after 15 minutes of me utilizing borrowed time I submerge from out of the bedroom and walk into what appears to be a lounge area.

There’s a bar that stocked with any and everything, completed with a half-dressed and very attractive vampire woman who appears to be going over some type of checklist. Her nose wrinkles as she looks up to face me with pure disgust, but she doesn’t say a thing.

I offer her a small smile anyway. It’s best to treat others how you want to be treated, even if the other party doesn’t see things the same way.

“Hello, I’m Embry and you are?”

She doesn’t respond. She just simply turns her back on me.

Ouch! Talk about the cold shoulder. I ignore her and focus on other things. My eyes start to wonder coming into contact with a total of three more expensive leather sectionals and each one has their own personal marigold circular minibar placed directly in front of the chair. There are chandlers placed over the top of each sectional and each area is also equipped with their own humongous flat-screen T.V.

Yes, televisions do still exist in the World after the awakening. It’s just Vampires are the ones who control the media and networks. So, anything on the television consists of their world.

That’s why we watch old reruns of human shows and VCR’s tapes back at the pack houses, and we have even been lucky enough to retrieve some old records.

In this world, you get what you find and that’s, that!

So, of course, I’m absolutely intrigued by all the luxury items that I’m currently viewing. The vampire is certainly living their best lives.

That’s for sure!

The lounge area is way more expressive than any room back at the North or Western packhouse. I can stand here for another century, just exploring the wonders inside of this room.

Apparently, my mate has other plans. He comes storming into the room with the grace of a predator. His mahogany hair is whisked, less than flawless. It makes appear to be very youthful plus wild and dangerous.

He always looks dangerous. Cyrus’s eyes scan me up and down. His pupils dilate and darken, appearing to be liquid gold for a long drown out moment. However, his features changed quicker than one can blink, turning into steely-eyed stare within a second.

This confirms two very important things.

Important thing number one, he likes my appearance very, very much. He thinks I’m pretty. Oh, Goddess, he thinks I’m pretty.

Important thing number two, he hates that he likes my appearance. I may be in deep -trouble. My heart rate rises and my stomach folds. He’s doing that thing again. You, know the thing that makes the energy around us indescribable.

The moment he reaches me he adds fuel to my brewing flame as he sweeps me off my feet and then tosses me over his shoulders like I’m some kind of pup.

He does that a lot, making me feel childish.

In addition, Cyrus also knows how to make a grand entrance and a grand exit that’s for sure. The vampire girl behind the bar could also testify to that. From dangling over my mates back, I can see her electric blue eyes widen at his unexpected actions and her head shake in disbelief.

She had that what the heck kind of look. It’s obvious, she was shocked. Jeez! I’m shocked and confused.

It’s not like you see a Vampire King, throwing a she-wolf over his shoulders on a daily basis. In fact, you typically don’t see a she-wolf in a vampire king’s presence at all, not one that’s alive anyway.

“I told you to hurry up,” Cyrus hisses as he continues to walk with barely controlled hostilely. “But of course you take your precious time and happen to place whatever the hell you wanted to place onto your body.”

“My apologies sir-,”

“Stop apologizing,” he interrupts me before I could finish. “You’re driving me crazy, with this sweet and innocent facade. Rule number 7, no more apologizing.” He demands while placing me down back onto the ground as we exit the plane. “Am I understood?”

“Yes, Sire!”

“Good,” he says, while frustratingly running his hand throughout his messy hair. I see this is becoming our little thing. I do something small, like being me, and he makes a rule about me not doing it, basically not wanting me to be me. It’s driving me crazy, just a little less than the point of insane. This is so frustrating. I just need someone to talk to. I need a friend.

“Where is my furry little friend,” I question him. He told me he was by a cockpit. Quite frankly, I don’t know what that is. I just want my furry little friend. I need him, right now and I’m sure he needs me.

“Rule Number two and three. You don’t ask questions. You answer them and you don’t speak unless spoken to,” Cyrus recites to me. How quickly one can forget?

“Sorry, Sir-”

“Rule number 7, no more apologizing,” He recites another verse, lowing his lips close to my ear. I shiver in response. This is also started to becoming another one of our things. He whispers inside of my ear and I shiver. He gives me chills. Broad Chills...

“Are you cold, sunshine,” questions my mate. He’s standing directly in front of me now and his body is the primary source of my inner heart. How can I be cold when our bodies are this close to touching?

I need an antidote to my sudden fever of anything. What remedy can cure the effect he has over me? I mean what I’m trying to say is that he makes me hot and cold. He makes me all warm inside. Cyrus knows perfectly well that if he’s standing even an inch away from me. I’ll never be cold, with or without my wolf gene.

Despite the winter’s air because it’s cold. Believe me when I say that it’s cold out here.

It’s so cold that you can see your breath in the air as you breathe.

The air is wet and the wind blowing through my hair cuts like a knife, blowing along with the fresh New York Winter Night. If I was a human I’m sure I would feel chilled to the very bone actually, I take that back. I am cold and chilled to the very bone because of him.

“Answer my question, sunshine,” Cyrus probes, while licking his lips and lowering his head.

“Cyrus, please,” I whine. Our lips are now directly in front of one another, almost brushing. I can’t take this. He’s driving me crazy. I need him like I need air. “Please accept,”

“Your furry little cousin has been disposed of.” He once again stops me in mid-sentence. Wait! What did he just say? “I couldn’t possible allow two dogs to roam inside of my home,” informs Cyrus while pulling away from me and pulling my heart out of my chest along with his movement.

Almost instantly, my tears start to surface.

“Your Highness,” interrupts a male vampire. I recognize the voice but I don’t look right away. I don’t want him to see me cry. None of them will ever again see me cry. I quickly wipe my tears and then turn to face him.

My jaw drops, literally drops. Blame it on my barely outgrown teenage she-wolves hormones. Not my fault! He’s a handsome vampire, extremely handsome. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a dropped dead gorgeous face! Oh, my Goddess!

Cyrus releases a small growl, setting me straight. His mood swings are giving me whip-flash. How could he call me a dog in one second? Then turn around and growl because I very well act like a dog and drool over someone other than him?

He’s crazy!

“Marko,” acknowledges my mate, while grabbing me roughly by my arm and yanking me forward. I can identify the annoyance in his tone. Again, tone is everything. He’s mad. Very mad! His fingers are digging into my arm as he pulls me in the direction of some building.

“What are the reports?” he questions Marko. I just realized something. Marko name rhymes with Polo.

Marko! Polo! Marko! Polo! That has a nice ring. “Focus Embry,” my wolf snaps. She’s also not happy with me.

“The other Kings have already been notified about our success,” Marko Polo starts to explain, following behind us. “King Nicklaus has sent word for you to meet up with him and King Xander down by the river.”

King Nicklaus?! King Xander?! Oh, no! No! No. That’s all I needed to hear.

Suddenly, I feel the chill from the winter air roaring within me. Like the invisible high winds from a severe snowstorm does before it finally makes its presence known.

If my ears have heard him correctly, which I’m pretty sure they have. The Vampire by the name of Marko is referring to The King of All Vampire Kings and The Cold-hearted King.... Double Trouble!

Deep fucking trouble, please excuse my French! But the presence of those vampires can only mean three things. Death, destruction, and more death! My heart starts pounding hard, and suddenly my breath gets caught inside of my chest.

I try to take a deep breath, but I can’t. It feels like an invisible pillow has been placed over top of my face, smothering me and cutting off my air supply.

With shaking hands I place my free hand over my chest as my mate continues to drag me along. I don’t know where were going. I’m too busy searching for air to pay attention.

“Is she having a panic attack,” questions Marko, I think. I’m unsure. At this point, I snatch away from my mate and crouch over, gasping for air.

“Oh, Shit! Breathe Embry! Breathe,” says Cyrus in a panic, now standing directly in front of me. He places one of his free hands over my shoulder and the other hand over top of my heart. For the first time since we met. He’s acting like my mate.

“Calm down, sunshine there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of,” assure my mate, staring directly into my eyes. I’m still gasping for air, but I find myself getting lost inside of his stare. His hypnotic amber eyes always do strange things to me.

I’m sure my eyes are wider than a puffer fish going into defense, appearing to be doubled in its original size, and rounder, clearly not very appetizing to my predator of a mate. Nevertheless, he continues to calm me and I follow his lead.

“Good job, sunshine,” He commends.

“Sire, I hate to interrupt but the transporters have arrived,” interrupts Marko. I almost forgot that he was here. Almost!

My mate answers with a growl and continues to focus on me. At this moment, I have his undivided attention.

He only cares about me.“That’s right, breathe in and out. Breathe in and breathe out,” he continues to guide. “Breathe in and breathe out.”

I start to follow his lead. Breathing in and out! In and out! Over a short period, my heart rate starts to return to an even pace and air finds its way into my lungs. It takes a couple of minutes before I completely calm down.

Yet it’s coming. I’m there. I can breathe again.

I blink and Cyrus is no longer in front of me.

“If you ever interrupt me again,” hisses Cyrus, grabbing Marko by his neck and lifting him high in the air. My eyes widen at the scene. How did he move so fast? “I’ll end you, he says and then the next thing I know is that I’m being lifted off the ground and placed into the safe security of my mate’s warm embrace.

He’s walking like a mad man and I’m the mad woman holding on to him,

Yes, its official he is crazy and so am I. We’re insane. It’s actually the new thing with all supernatural couples. Crazy in love!

My eyes lock onto Marko, who’s currently following behind us with raised eyebrows. I feel bad for him.

I mouth a “Sorry,” to him but I don’t think he’s paying too much attention to me. He’s seems to be in some sort of trace.

He’s looks shock, completely blindsided just like how the vampire woman on the plane looked and just like how every other vampire that we come in contact with is looking now.

Everyone is watching us with strange expressions as Cyrus storms through what I now know to be an airport with me in his arms.

“That’s the King,” I hear someone say.

“He’s carrying a dog,” says someone else.

“More dogs are coming,” says another, “Is that their missing Luna,”

“Why is Blood Goddess name is a she-wolf in the city? Hopefully they kill the Bitch!”

As soon as I heard the last remark, I try my best to tone the other ones out. I want to shrink and hide at this point. Over the last past couple of years. I’ve grown use to attention but not like this.

This type of attention makes me want to piss on myself.

I’m shitting bricks.

Red eyes are watching my every move, like I’m some sort of lab rat. They hate my guts, for no apparent reason. Some of them even steps directly in front of their children, shielding them away from me.

It’s obvious that the vampires either want to kill me or want to see me killed because they all fear me.

It’s like a movie, where everyone and everything has been frozen into place, including the vampire’s human pets. They are also looking at me wary, like they are afraid that I’m going to pounce at any time.

Their acting as if I’m this wild and unpredictable animal, completely disregarding the fact that I’m also part human.

If that’s enough some scary looking vampires starts to surround the two of us as we make our way through the building. They are all mean, green, silver laced weapon carrying, fighting machines.

No seriously, all of them are stoned faced, weapon carrying vampire men dressed in black from head to toe. I decided to name them the Toy Soldiers and my mate is their puppet master. It’s really a grand show. He doesn’t even have to bark orders. He just waves his hand at one of his toy soldiers, who then looks at the vampire airport workers and order them to do things.

Kind of like mind-linking.

I start to put two and two together fairly quickly. The Toy Soldiers are a part of my mate’s coven, mostly likely his personal security detail. They are highly skilled and highly trained vampires. In other words, they are trained to go.

In further elaboration, they are the real deal. I try my hardest not to stare at any of them for too long. They also scare me.

When we step outside there are already several black tinted SUV, waiting for us.

Plus, another collection of Toy Soldiers, talking into funny devices comes into view. The moment we exit the building they start to form a tighter circle around us. My sensitive ears pick up on them chanting among one another.

Apparently, the news about Cyrus walking through the airport with a she-wolf clinging to him is a big deal. The additional, Toy Soldiers have been stationed here for additional protection.

I swallow the lump forming inside of my throat. Hopefully, no one tries to attack me or him.

As on Que, all hell break’s loose. Vampires are running from out of the airport dragging their humans behind them by their leashes. I don’t know if they are running towards us, or are running away in general. All I know is that millions of vampires are running, resembling bees swarming from out of a beehive when it is knocked down from off the top of a tree.

It’s absolutely, nerve-racking.

My heart rate increases in speed, beating uncontrollably.

“They have breached the City,” says Marko, as he approaches Cyrus. Who has breached the city?

“Get her to safety,” barks my mate as he hands me over to one of his Toy Soldiers. What? He can’t be serious. He can’t possibly be thinking about leaving me.

“No,” I start to scream and attempt to break free from the toy soldier holding me. “You can’t leave me,”

My attempt is useless. The toy soldier is restraining me with ease.

“Take her back to my penthouse,” he orders and ignores me. “Marko, you are to escort and protect her by any means necessary.”

I’m still going crazy, trying my absolutely best to break free. “Even if you have to protect her from herself,” Cyrus barks louder, and then he’s gone, just like that he disappears.

Meanwhile, I’m still going crazy like a mad woman inside of the Toy Soldiers arms.

“Cut it out,” says the toy soldier who’s restraining me.

“Let me go,”

“Put the bitch to sleep,” hisses another toy soldier as the one that’s holding me shoves me in the back of one of the SUV.

I continue to kick and scream. I’m seconds away from clawing my way out of this.

My wolf starts to panic within me. She’s seconds away from breaking free. The neglect from our mate is slowly driving her to the brink of insanity. He’s supposed to be here with us. It’s danger on the horizon. We can sense it. Something big is about to go down.

The other door opens and the vampire by the name of Marko slides in. By the look of things, he’s just as unhappy about being here with me as I’m unhappy about him being here with him, despite his good looks.

I just want my mate.

The moment he shuts the door the truck speeds off. He pulls out a gun and sits it directly onto his lap, gaining my attention and completely silencing me.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way, either way you’re going to calm the fuck down and tell me exactly who you are,” he growls a time and my wolf growls at him inside of my head.
